My 50th high school reunion tonight, but it sounds like the party is starting early for some

There was one fellow on the planning committee that actually brought a cooler of beer with him to the meetings. He sit, open one and as soon as he finished, he'd open another and drink it. Now he's posted on our Facebook Reunion group that anyone in the class was welcome to come to a the local tavern near the reunion venue 2 hours prior to the reunion scheduled start and join him there. Sounds like he's planning on pre-loading. Every time he posts a photo of himself on FB, he's got a drink in his hand. I just don't know why his drinking habits annoy me so much. It seems to me that he's proud of it. It isn't like he not going to get enough at the reunion. :unsure:
 

After-parties are a thing. Maybe pre-parties are too.

Maybe he's being considerate of out-of-towners who have nothing to do before the reunion.

Years ago, when I was online dating, a friend warned me off guys whose photos showed them holding an alcoholic drink. Obviously that bothered her a lot. I admit to being bugged by constant pull-tab sounds. But whatever. 🤷‍♀️
 
People like that can ruin a good time for others, but if he drinks steady, meaning he's a functioning alcoholic, he probably never gets lit up. We had men in the military that would drink from Friday evening until late Sunday night, get about 4-5 hours sleep, wake up, shower and go to work and look just fine.

It kinds of bothers me if I go to my 50th reunion and have never been married.

Oh, it all averages out. Some of them will have been married 5 or 6 times......
 
A typical reunion. They had an Italian-style buffet and for appetizers was "artisan" cheeses, fruit and crackers. They also had a table of photos of classmates who've passed. Cheesecake, giant cookies and other treats for dessert. A lot of folks at the cash bar, but I have no problem with that as long as it's in moderation and they know their limit. I even got up and danced. There's a video of it on the FB reunion page, but I don't know how to display it here. Here are pics without any people in them - I don't have their permission, but that didn't stop some from posting their photos on FB. ;) I though the music was too loud - had to shout at people to talk to them.

Whilst I have met a few people that I was at school with, actual reunions I never attend. My school was what we call a Grammar school. The British had a selective agenda back then, skimming of those who could pass an examination known as the eleven plus. Nowadays the senior schools are known as Comprehensive, the eleven plus was scrapped, or at least I think it was. Perhaps my fellow Brits will confirm that.
My Grammar School was a Catholic institution, a brutal one. I hated it, my feelings haven't changed in 65 years, that's why I won't ever be seen in the place.

He sounds like a jerk to me, and I would not want to be in his company. I wonder if he is married. If he is I feel sorry for his wife.

I went to a Catholic grammar school and High school. I was taught by Nun's. They were all crazy.
 
Glad you had a good time!

At my 30th High School Reunion, I never bought a ticket to the event.

I showed up later in the evening in a leather jacket and ballcap. I just walked in like I owned the place, and everyone was like..."BEEZE!!!!"

There were a lot of pasta dishes, but I took some lasagna and the was enough for me. I passed on the two ziti in tomato sauce entrees (one was gluten free). Liked the chicken parm. There were some salads, roasted potatoes and roast beef a jus.

There were probably about 50 grads there (there were 150 in my graduating class), some alone and some with a guest or spouse - a lot less than the last one. Some are ill or have moved too far away to making attending practical. Some that I know simply chose not to attend. One woman that was on the planning committee boycotted it because the committee chose not to invite any of the other class members that graduated the year after ours (1970). She was actually in the class of 1970, but was held back a year because of illness and missed a lot of school because if it. She probably wanted to invite the alumni in the class from which she graduated.

So many have already passed, it's disquieting. They were actually calling it the 50+2 year reunion. It got postponed because of COVID. I heard some discussion about having it every 5 years now. I chimed in that after another 10 years, we should have it every year since by then we won't know which will be our last. That got a few chuckles.

A few mentioned that I look just the same as when I was in high school. Fibbers! ;) I'll let you decide - my yearbook photo and a selfie I took last night.

Both pictures are nice, Deb. One thing for sure is that you still have pretty, wavy hair.

Deb, other than your hair colour, you haven't changed much at all! Great photo of you :)
