Holly, we (still) have freedom of speech in this country. That includes freedom of speech for non-Americans as well. If there was an outcry about eggs being thrown at a particular president, if would have been by his fanatic followers. You Brits have your fanatics also. It is not fair to assume that all Americans behave that way because of the behavior of the cult followers.

But even the fanatics have the right to protest; we all do.

That being said, I also feel horrified when I see food being used that way. That includes races and games invoving kids throwing and catching eggs, etc. There are just too many hungry people in the world for that to be funny.

Thank you, I knew someone threw shoes. It was funny. You can see Bush tucking and smiling.

In the ME, intentionally hitting or even touching someone with your shoe is seriously insulting.

I've just read this morning that a bail condition was that he was banned from carrying eggs until his court date?
This is too funny. Tough British laws to be sure.😁

I was just chatting with a friend in Liverpool, England and she hadn't heard this and asked if I would send her a copy of the news article. Even she couldn't believe it.

I remember when a shoe was thrown at GWB during an Iraqi press conference. I didn't care for Dubya but I was a bit offended that a U.S. president was publicly disrespected.

Throwing a shoe is considered a huge insult in Iraq (perhaps other Middle East countries) when Saddam Hussein was overthrown Iraqi's threw their shoes at pictures and statues of Saddam. I suspect a lot of us thought that was very funny too.
 
Throwing food at things, in the US, is done. Eggs are a traditional food that is often thrown, in the US, at cars and houses as is toilet paper when neighbors are unhappy with each other. Ripe Tomatoes are usually thrown at people. Often food throwing is incorporated in US movies and on commercials because it is thought to be funny.

But at the current cost of food, it’s not as funny as it used to be. Eggs are a mainstay of protein for the poor especially. At four to five dollars a carton here, throwing eggs is a terrible waste of a needed food. During the toilet paper shortage, no one toilet papered any houses. Parents would have killed their teenagers. But this used to happen quite a bit.

Just saying. There are culture differences which explain the humorous response to what happened to the King.
 
In the really old days, they threw ripe tomatoes at poor performers on the stage. At least, so the story goes. So maybe we've improved a little.

I respectfully disagree, but I think some will be quick to get insulted, and react loudly, but I don't think they represent the mainstream. I understand that you may be offended by the egg jokes, and I will apologize if you found anything I said offensive, but I believe you are wrong about most Americans. I'm always interested in what other's think about our government, and most of the negative comments I hear are well thought out and often warranted. Some, usually those motivated by hatred of America and little else, can be a little over the top, and sometimes, just incorrect IMO. But those criticisms are vastly outnumbered by more intelligent perceptions.
 
I can't envision any Brit egging QEII.
BTW, the Brits have come up with a better title for Camila -Queen Consort. To consort means to associate for nefarious reasons. To me, "Queen Consort" sounds like "live in bimbo", even "Mrs. Windsor" sounds better. If she isn't a "Queen", how about the tittle Regina.
