Did you ever get your Davy Crockett Coonskin Hat?

When I was a little kid, I wanted a Davy Crockett Coonskin hat. I bugged my parents night and day for weeks to get one. Well, I never got one. And that got me thinking about what did you really want- a true desire, and did you ever get it. Why, or why not?
(BTW, isn't it amazing how a six year old kid instinctively knows how to bug his parents to get things.)

I always wanted the TV programs that any normal kid would want but couldn't always have them because we only had the one TV and parents' shows usually had priority. The one I remember most was Walt Disney and the show with Dr. Wernher von Braun and the future of rocket travel into space.

My two younger brothers had those hats along with pop guns that were designed to shoot corks. but they soon discovered that dried berries from our China Berry Tree were much better ammunition. They shot further and they had an endless supply. Oh yes, it was Davy Crockett around our house for a couple of years. They had a ball wearing those hats, and I had a ball laughing at their antics.

My wife always had a horse since age 10 I believe. I knew when I married her never to make her choose her current horse and me. At one point we followed her dream to leverage her experience and create and run an Equine Therapy center that focused on those with special needs. (I worked the other end of the horse. -- now where did I put the shovel?). Recently I put together a video using photos and newspaper clippings from that time and posted it to YouTube. She made quite a positive difference in the lives of many families. I remain very, very proud of her.

I managed a decent sized horse rescue for more than 10 years. At one time I had the care and feeding of 30 head, including my own. I too am well acquainted with the shovel. Some of our horses went to therapy centers from here.

I understand. We were allowed one hour of TV a day. My younger sister and brother got home before me, and used up most of the TV time before I arrived.

As for stuff I wanted: Many of the clothing items in the Eaton's catalog. Dream on, kid.

I do remember Davy Crockett hats. I even had one as a young adult, long after they went out of style.
 
My parents went away to Reno one weekend and I`m guessing they must have won some money,because they brought my sister and I "coon skin hats" AND Davy Crockett jackets! Rust colored suede with fringe.We thought we had really hit the jackpot! But we were huge Davy Crockett fans.

"They weren't made of REAL raccoon fur, were they???"
No,fake all the way....and the top of the hat was vinyl-not leather.
