Good, doesn't seem important enough to end a friendship over. Maybe she was just having a bad day...Update, while the friendship is still intact on my part

LOL good grief she asked for advice and was nasty when she didn't like your answer. I think the handmade house is something only adults, maybe teens would appreciate but not little girls...Sounds like she is just trying to impress others with little thought for the girl.. ..and that is sadI just hate it when someone asks for your advice and then gets huffy when they don't like your answer. A friend was showing me a picture of a hand made wooden dollhouse, very very expensive with no furniture in it. The workmanship was great in the picture, but I felt it was something of a throwback from years ago, something a little girl at the turn of the century would own.
I told her that I thought that for a fraction of the price she could get a Barbie Dreamhouse complete with furniture and a swimming pool with all the bells and whistles. Spending over $500.00 for the wood one was something she might reconsider.
A bit snarky she told me that since I never had kids "what did I know" and snarky me back replied that the little girl in me would love the Barbie and use the wood one for fire starter.
OK then, those of you with kids weigh in, what would your little darling grand love to find under the tree.
And come to think of it, the monstrosity would not even fit under a tree.
Good grief if that is her opinion of you, then why ask you in the first place?A bit snarky she told me that since I never had kids "what did I know" and snarky me back replied that the little girl in me would love the Barbie and use the wood one for fire starter.
Ooooh! I would have loved that! I used to lay out house plans with my dominoes and later with my dad's drafting board.I had one of those metal doll houses and played with it for years! Loved it!
Then I got a construction set of little plastic "bricks" that were meant to build houses, etc., complete with doors that would swing open and windows that opened. I built house after house with those bricks and I figure that contributed to making me such an addict to HGTV later in life.![]()
Responses like that woman's to Lee are major red flags for me. When someone responds with a put down, I'm like nope.Good grief if that is her opinion of you, then why ask you in the first place?
Nice comeback.
It was fun and interesting to me, looking at those. Thanks for posting that link.@Lee I'm extremely sorry for that highly inappropriate comment that you got back. The individual apparently forgot she actually asked.
I'm wondering if what this woman was speaking of was similar to this Etsy search?
Waldorf wooden dollhouse - Etsy
You have a couple of things to consider. Handmade vs. made in China. (Though etsy is having major resellers on their site.) Price of course. If someone has plenty of extra income. I don't have any kids either but I do think a child may be more interested in the bright colors and all. Though I find some of these doll houses in the search adorable.
Close your eyes and enjoy having one in your imagination!Best thing I owned when I was a kid. Had to share it with my brothers, but that was all for the better when our "enemies" encroached on our territory.
I'd love to own one now. What a fantastic place that would be to hang out in all day. Big problem would be getting up there and chillin' without getting vertigo and fallin'.
Brilliant, Ruthanne! Why don't you ask the little girl....
I'm with you Lee, I would choose the Barbie for the girl. Like you, I've never had children either, but I was after all, a little girl once upon a time. If the older, more expensive wooden house had furniture, dolls, pictures, pets, appliances, blankets, curtains, etc., then I would have opted for that. But unfurnished, no way. The gift is for the child, not for the older person giving it, in my opinion.I just hate it when someone asks for your advice and then gets huffy when they don't like your answer.
