Native American Heritage Day, November 25th (Day after Thanksgiving)

Kickapoo, family rumor-now proved by DNA.

I wish it was a different month. OMGosh, day after Thanksgiving-here‘s our entire country served up on a platter of mashed potatoes, gravy, and turkey. Enjoy the day. We will celebrate when you are finished.

Kind of subservient don’t you think? 😳

Thanks @Paladin1950 , I didn't know.

I grew up hearing that we had some Native American blood in the family. Some of my ancestors settled in Kentucky in the late 1700s, when there were lots of Native Americans and very few whites there. One ancestor emigrated from Ireland with his wife Polly ending up in Kentucky. She died and he married a Native American woman, who unfortunately he called Polly also. Genealogy was of little help in sorting out which Polly we were descended from.

Then I had a DNA test done a few years ago and was a bit disappointed to find no Native American in me. Not even an Elizabeth Warren level... Guess I descended from the Irish Polly.

My paternal grandmother claimed to be 1/4 native american (well, she used the word "injun") but when 23andme did my DNA, it showed nothing for Native American, although it did show I'm about 3% Neanderthal. And most likely, so are you.

When is Neanderthal Heritage Day?
