My catalytic converter was stolen today

That really is sickening Murrmurr, this has been happening for
years now, why can't they find an additive to prevent some of
the toxins that they are designed to stop, maybe put the "Cat",
in the fuel filler tube, or blow the exhaust gas through water,
or, a water based solution, that can be replaced regularly, we
have some highly intelligent scientists, that can do it, I saw an
example many years ago when I was still working.

There must be too much profit in "Cats", to change the system.

Mike.

Catalytic converter thefts are absolutely rife here.. not only on the drive, but in the supermarket car park.. everywhere... takes literally seconds for these scumbags to remove it

So sorry this happened to you! In your new house too!

Just yesterday in my FB group, Scanner Nerds, someone shared a home security video of a guy that has been stealing catalytic converters. The car lots in our area have had a problem with this also. Maybe there is some kind of an alarm system for vehicles that would go off and make a lot of noise. Not so they can see it in advance to disable it though.

Sadly, when the car was stolen off the carport, he failed to even whimper!

The dog we had when I was a teen had no problem at all waking the entire house up when a stray dog or cat come down the driveway or, even worse, I came in at midnight from a date, but let my dad get his car stolen in the middle of the night from the driveway only feet from the back door.....not a yip out of her.

Mine won't bark at animals, but raises h311 whenever a person comes on the property. And being a Chow of about #50, most people are afraid of her.

If I saw a theft in play, I'd stroll over and release the jack
Years ago a cop gave a friend some good advice when contemplating that kind of thing.

The friend's house had just been burglarized, for the 3rd time. He told the cop he was going to let his wife take the car, turn off the lights, and wait for the burglar with a gun. The cop told him his only advice was, after shooting, to get a knife and put it into the burglar's hand before calling the police...

I was told a very similar thing by the Spanish police when I had an attempted burglary at my home in Spain ..I was told to do whatever I felt necessary but not to allow the body to be found on my premises..

In the UK.. just saying you will kill someone will get you a jail sentence

The why of converter theft.

Platinum, rhodium and palladium are prime reason for catalytic converter theft
Monday, April 18, 2022

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- As catalytic converter theft continues to rise, many are wondering why? Within minutes, thieves are able to cut them off from vehicles. It is because of a type of three types of metals that is inside the pollution control devices.

"It's platinum, palladium, and rhodium. You have platinum for around $800 or $900 dollars an ounce. You have palladium for around $2,200 an ounce. You have rhodium that's $18 to $20,000 an ounce, " said well-known scrap shop owner Dennis Laviage of C&D Scrap Metal.

The article also states

The issue is that it is impossible for an average person to extract those metals. There's a complicated process that must be done in a manufacturing setting.

Seems obvious that it's not average people doing this & there is a market available to sell the stolen high cost metals.

Some people put up a sign somewhere on their property saying the owner has a dangerous dog as a warning. You don't actually have to have one but it might give some potential thief second thoughts.

When checking out a home to buy years ago, I walked on the property to look around and heard what sounded like a large dog barking although I never saw it. I left quickly. It gave me the idea that a motion detector outside could set off a recording of a barking dog and no one would know it was only a recording.

This is a video I saw a couple of years ago.. taken in the Tesco supermarket car park, next to Ikea, the biggest Ikea in North London.. our nearest Ikea and one I know very well ...so it was of interest to me to watch this... All caught on the owners dashcam... showing how quickly and slickly as well as Brazen it's done..

Really stupid cop.

Interesting video, but you know it is hard to watch when they drive on the wrong side of the road!;)
Hopefully, they caught those people. Thanks for posting.

Not the last time I attempted to drive over there!! :ROFLMAO:

We drive on the right, y'all on the wrong, side of the road.
as I said..we drive on the 'correct' side of the road.. as do...all of these countries..

Never got that one, it's the only place in the US driving on the left. Roads are winding and narrow and most cars have the steering wheel on the left side (to drive on the right). Makes for a dangerous situation.

First time I went I didn't know. When I got in the rental car, steering wheel on the left, there was a note that said "Keep Right and Honk Often". That was all the warning I got...
