So hard to find a clear pattern in who Musk lets or wants back and who he wants out. Seems he is primarily in favor of an elite making decisions without regard to precedent or law.

TBH I haven't a clue.. I really don't follow what this guy is doing.. It was only because the Kanye west thing popped up on my newsfeed that I knew about the banning from Twitter. I feel this whole world has gone completely bananas, with People like Elon Musk, and Kanye West being given the publicity that they are ..

Same here. I’ve never been interested in Twitter and only learn a little when other news sources quote from it. I’m even less interested now.

That is bizarre... the name doesn't seem to have kept many white girls away. What damage was done? Who was insulted?
Who decides these things and how are they enforced? If I thought calling brownies brownies was hurtful or felt like hate speech to many I would change, but I am skeptical...
Defining it is a bit tricky, but I know it exists, I have heard it. When I was a student at LSU a young David Duke was a regular at our free speech alley. I listened a lot, kind of fascinated that anyone would believe such nonsense... Absolutely no mistaking what he was doing...
On the other hand calling a cookie or a young girl scout a Brownie should not be put into the same category, not even close. I believe doing so diminishes what hate speech means and may benefit those that actually practice it.

Of course it is, always has been. Not many people, world leaders included, would turn down a meeting with a multi-billionaire, not if they thought there was any chance of getting some of that money. I probably wouldn't, just human nature.
Not that I'm likely to get the chance, not expecting a call from Musk or Gates anytime soon.

Critics of the change say the origin of the name has nothing to do with race. Brownies are fairies in Scottish folklore.
..and that is fact. I was a Brownie in Scotland when I was a kid... and within the Brownies we all were in different ''sixes''.. called things like pixies, or elves, ... are they going to change that in case someone called Pixie feels upset ?
Just beyond ridiculous...

Thanks for the post, I didn't know about the Scottish origin of the Brownie name. Makes it both more interesting and harmless sounding.

I was just suspended from here for 'hate speech' when I voiced only an opinion.
We are [as a nation] removing 'free speech' simply because it doesn't fit the narrative of others.

That’s the thing. Hate speech is still rotten even when it comes out of my mouth. But I think most of us also consider people’s intentions.

I’m glad to hear that. Things can get ugly fast so I’m glad it is spelled out that clearly and that it is enforced! So often it isn’t.

Problem is that can be subject to some interpretation... I don't always agree with Matrix, but I know he's in charge. Its a private forum that's the way it works.
Even though I do not always agree with Matrix I am glad to have this place. And I do often see the logic in his decisions. If I wasn't happy here I'd just leave. Always our prerogative...

Unavoidably, I agree.
Voting with our feet is always an option. But I’m more and more pleasantly surprised. By all means I hope someone will let me know if I give offense. But I for one do not desire the level of freedom we find on the island of boys in The Lord of the Flies or that leads to riots. Plus I’ve been a teacher so I understand the onus of weilding authority. I’m grateful to those who are willing and will give them the benefit of the doubt.

I've heard that certain Iranian leaders are allowed on Twitter even though they have some very nasty views about certain people. And what about China? They lock up up whole cities for months at a time. The Chinese government puts certain groups into special camps to correct their 'faulty thinking'.
All of this happened under the old Twitter ownership and nobody seemed to mind.
Folks, if you are getting you news about Mr. Musk or any other public person from only stories in the news media and social media, then you are at great risk of being played for a fool. It's sad, but they did this to themselves.

To my way of thinking trying to get rid of the word, "Brownie" doesn't make sense. You mix up a batch of dough, you put in the oven and the dough comes out brown, so chefs and cooks for years have called them "Brownies." Now, I think, if they came out yellow, we probably would have called them "Yellers" or if Green, then it might be "Greenies." However, they come out brown. It is really making a mountain out of an anthill.
I was born and raised in this country but all the name changing and statue toppling is rather new to me. The cookies I eat are usually brown (see below). If you want to know more about the "Evils" of calling your cookies, "Brownies" just read the article:

Sorry but this is no joking. Two years ago, they were building a 3rd toilet for those folks who were not "men" or "women." Now, they are after the Brownies. I am serious here even though I think that this is so stupid is is beyond my understanding. We have serious problems in this world (inflation, war) and here they are after the Brownies.
