I am posting this current news article to educate our American friends about how many smuggled hand guns come into Canada from the USA. It is a major factor in criminal cases here. The problem is only getting bigger, and the wide open gun sales in some US states are definitely adding to the problem here. \\link. Well, seeing as America is the leading manufacture of firearms and is your nearest neighbor, can't say it's a surprise. Now, The ones seized in the UK does kind of surprise me.

Why do your people like guns so much? ;)

The US still gets guns smuggled in from Mexico, more every year. Criminals buy them in order to avoid a background check and wait period, having to register them, and having to complete a safety course.
 
Just as with illegal drugs coming across the southern US border if the demand was not there nor would those guns be.

Law breakers more commonly known as criminals tend to do what they want. And if there is a will there is way.
 
62 whole guns? {shrug} One of my brother-in-laws (now deceased) had at least that many in his basement. And Lord knows how many thousands of rounds of ammunition.
 
I have said it before if there is 1 big difference between a Canadian and an American it's their strange, uncanny love of guns. I remember as a teenager going on my 1st trip to the USA with my brother. We were just amazed that you could walk into a gun shop and there were hundreds of handguns for sale.

I also remember spending those winters down in Port Isabel, Texas and see the signs advertising, "GUN SHOWS." Apparently, you could buy and you could also trade. They also had some pretty big knives. It seemed to be a sort of big deal down there.

Roughly 1/3 of the American population are gun owners. The majority of them live in rural and farm areas and consider their firearms utilitarian, where 85% of gun owners in urban areas say their firearms are for self defense purposes and 12% identify as collectors of rare, unique, and historical firearms.

I'm an American, so you probably think I'm biased, but none of that is strange or uncanny. It makes sense.

Florida man shoots and kills his neighbors over a laundry room dispute
Hugh Hootman, 75, told detectives his downstairs neighbor Henry Wallace yelled at Hootman’s wife Susan several days ago for leaving the shared laundry room’s door open, and when he saw 81-year old Henry Wallace at the mailbox Saturday, Hootman told Henry he needed to apologize.

Hootman told detectives when Wallace tried to push past him without apologizing, “I lost my temper” and he pulled out his gun and shot him several times.

When Ginger Wallace, Henry's wife, 81, ran outside to see what was going on and began yelling, Hootman told detectives he shot her twice.

According to deputies, Hootman has a concealed carry permit and kept his gun in his pocket for protection.

Neighbors said both couples were friendly and cordial, and they'd never heard any arguing.

Ginger Wallace was the president of the Cedar Pointe Village homeowners association, and neighbors said she had just put up a lit reindeer tableaux in front of the mailboxes where she and her husband were shot and killed.

Your example is an indication of an idiot carrying a firearm; rather than the danger of carrying a firearm in general.

Would this be an example of one of dangers of vehicles?

Brooks slammed an SUV into the crowd attending the annual Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wis., a close-knit community 20 miles west of Milwaukee.
The 40-year-old received a life sentence for each person he killed: Jackson Sparks, 8; Tamara Durand, 52; Jane Kulich, 52; LeAnna Owen, 71; Virginia Sorenson, 79; and Wilhelm Hospel, 81.

What would you suggest ? Stop EVERY vehicle entering Canada and search it ? That would quickly kill our tourist business. JimB.
