I like to go walking for exercise and walking in a mall among a lot of people is where I go. I do it slow, and sit down and rest once in awhile. Plus, watching people is what I enjoy also. I try really hard to get 10,000 steps in, and it takes alot of effort. If I don't get the amount I want at the mall, later I go to Wal Mart. Now I like to walk where there are people. I used to walk in a park for walkers, or around where I live. And I used to take my dog with me.

Walking is a fantastic exercise. It burns calories, builds muscle, aids your cardiovascular system and your digestive system. And as you mentioned walking in different places keeps it interesting, being in nature or people watching is always entertaining.

There used to be a mall next to me that opened up early during the summer for walkers but sadly that mall is now demolished. Now I wake up very early in the summer and get my walk in before the heat hits.
Yes, one of our malls got demolished too. The other one used to open really early in the morning. After Covid, it started opening at 11:30 am. I loved walking around a pond at a walk park. I would go there early in the morning, like you, before the heat set in.

We have a facility with a walking/running track above one of the ice pads. It's nice in the summer if it's too hot outside and in the winter if the sidewalks are icy. I still prefer to walk outside but it's nice to have the indoor option too.

There is a very nice pool at the same facility and I try to swim at least 3km a week.

One of the major reasons we haven't downsized...we have a big, circular driveway on acreage that permits us do do our 3 miles each day without fending off cars, people or dogs!
But don't you get bored seeing the same acreage every day? That's why I don't want to walk where we are; mostly because no sidewalks but also because I already know what the neighbors (and my) yards look like, for crying out loud! Gimme some stores to walk past or towards and people walking past, that's interesting, not the same old boring flat, hot countryside, yawn.

I like to walk everyday, twice is preferred. Right now the roads and sidewalks are still too icy and no thaw is expected. It’s treacherous. Even the downtown core is a challenge. I’m in withdrawal.

Usually I/we walk the same routes. I play a game of trying to find three different things on each walk. They’re working on the fence, there’s a for sale sign, there’s a dead raccoon, etc. It’s not much of a game, but it helps keep me alert. Strangers acknowledge each other 99% of the time. I also say hello to all the dogs.

Wow! I have trouble making the 6,000 steps my pedometer app tells me I should be doing. I realize I need to get to exercising; getting too sedentary. I feel it when I take walks to do errands too..now have to build my stamina again. Gee you've provided me with inspiration and motivation Fanci ! If you go through an entire Walmart superstore, you will definitely get some steps in. :D Kudos for your healthy habit.

I went for a walk yesterday on the flood protection dike. I'm finding that the older I get, the more a walk affects me that night and the next day. I'm being forced to cut back in distance a little.

In the winter when it's really nasty outside, I've taken to walking in a circle in my 1,000 square foot basement along with a weight lifting routine that's manageable. It's not as boring as you might think.

One of the many reasons for having a dog is: to walk 3 miles/day (over 3 sessions). Flash (dog) is the perfect housemate - always ready to go, love my cooking (never complain "same old. same old kibble again!! LOLOL) and my security - whenever salespeople come up the front stairs, he barks and body slams the door - I tell sales person to leave as I have trouble controlling this vicious dog!! I found a "Vicious Dog" sign for the door from a yard sale - best 50 cents investment. LOLOL

I agree with BC Flash, though the perfect housemate would have been DH together with our pets. Having a dog will make sure that you get your 10,000 steps per day, I walk twice a day outside with the dog, living in this beautiful place allows us to take a different route every day. Sometimes we walk the streets, sometimes we walk by the water and at other times we'll go and visit the sheep and horses. I love the outdoors, the only thing that makes me sad is that we have lost so many birds and so I do not see as many any more.

I walk between 12,000 to 15,000 a day but I have a short stride being barely 5 feet tall. I walk an hour in the mall everyday when it is wet or too cold outside. I have music on my phone to listen too and I pass many others and we say 'good morning' (well, most of them anyway). If I walk outside I am only 20 minutes from Lake Ontario and no wave looks the same. I feel so much better since starting this weight loss and walking; I would highly recommend it (when possible).

Walking, walking & more walking.
Great exercise! And can be fun.

I used to walk a lot, hiking and outdoors. We don't have a mall anywhere nearby. However my knees got in the way, once they are healed from the surgery I am hoping I can do more. It is kind of cold and snowy right now, may wait for spring...
I like walking/hiking. I don’t want to see anybody or very few people though.
I agree, and that is not hard around here. However I also don't like seeing a lot of snow...
I wish I could still go for a walk.
Is that because of your legs? I know you use a rebounder, seems like walking would not be harder. Or is it your climate?

To clarify, I don't jump on the rebounder. I step back and forth and do leg curls and kicks, etc. -- as in a gentle aerobics class -- for 30 minutes a day.

It has helped me a lot, because it strengthened the "small muscles" that support the knee. I went from crippled (needing 2 canes just to cross the room) to where I now go around the apartment all day without canes.

Outdoors, however, if I walk more than about 4 blocks total (with or without canes), my knees hurt. Walking to the nearby store and back is usually my limit.

So in my case, walking is harder.

Before I bought a treadmill 8 years ago, I used to walk outside, play tennis, and walk in the mall. But now it's much easier with the treadmill. I have been walking almost daily on it ever since. My usual routine is to walk half hour after breakfast and half hour after dinner. Sometimes more. I like to put my laptop on the dashboard and surf the Internet, read the news, or watch a movie while I'm walking. I can't play dance music because it's tricky trying not to get into the dance step while walking. I could easily fall off. It's very efficient because I know exactly how many miles I've walked, the calories expended, and it doesn't take time to get to it for a walk. The treadmill is in my den at home and I don't have to worry about the weather (rain, snow) or getting bored. The only thing I've noticed is that my pace is slower than it used to be 8 years ago, but that's ok. The important thing is to keep moving.
