Feet and health condition

LadyEmeraude

Tis The Season
Many people feel that your feet can tell you a lot about your general health condition or even warn you of underlying health conditions. If we have any foot pains or symptoms, such as numbness in our feet this can often show symptoms of disease before any other part of your body.

I am just now looking at my feet and evaluating both how they look, how they feel, and other things.
Just starting recently to have light tingling in the pads of my feet, so want to pay attention of course.
Also am starting some mild burning sensations in my feet.

I have Peripheral Neuropathy in my feet, mostly numbness. I don't have diabetes, had not been alcoholic and the testing my doctor did came up inconclusive- "idiopathic". It was a sudden onset, but has not gotten significantly worse in the 11 years I've had it. shrug.gif

Oh dear......13 years ago I was knocked down and had my foot run over by a large municipal truck.......subsequently I revisited the trauma hospital and commented that said foot didn't appear to be totally in correct alignment.

Doctor said "Oh, we don't worry about that".

I replied "If it was your foot I wouldn't worry either".

Now I have to worry?...Oy Vey.

I have Morton’s Neuroma on my left foot for 8 years now. I have to keep it warm so I wear slippers year round inside, but otherwise it is no big problem now. At first there was pain in my smaller toes and coupled with jogging, triggered all kinds of back issues. A friend had surgery for this and it did not end so well - glad I opted not to go that route.

Your feet take a lot of abuse during your life time. After all they support the body weight, and that weight can come down to many pounds per square inch on the soles of your feet. Triva fact....Both the feet and the hands have 26 bones in each of them. Metatarsils in the feet, and Metacarpals in the hands. There are 206 bones in your body.

I see an Indian lady who is a foot care specialist. She does nail cutting and skin care , which is covered by my health insurance. Every 3 months. That keeps my feet in good shape. Jimb.

Don't have to go that far, but "Been there, done that, wear orthotics" Consulting surgeon at the time, (recommended by our lawyer), said that it'll only get worse over time....(I can't walk around barefoot, but with shoes/mocs it's not so bad)....so far I can live with it...I stair walk......etc....c'est la vie.

The motto of "Suck it up, Buttercup" is my guide.

OK I get it. JimB.

Due to arthritis, several of my toes don't point straight forward but are bent in different angles causing pain. The ball of the foot loses natural padding as we age and there isn't anymore cushioning as before causing me more pain. Feet are my biggest problem right now. There's lots of miles on these old dogs from being a runner and hiker. I'm seeking relief, but am not sure where to turn.

Nathan I have to wonder if I am heading the same direction, don't want it to worsen..

Chet, arthritis can be problematic, I have it also, have any meds ever helping in the past with pain and if so please share what they were if you would.
The only pain or inflammation med I use now is Ibuprofen, it seems to help that tingling, which is slowing transitioning to mild burning in my feet.

I've not heard of Morton's Neuroma, and want to google it and read up.

@LadyEmeraude , I sure hope your foot sensations don't worsen. Do you have diabetes, or have had chemo? My wife has numbness and some burning in her feet from various cancer chemo treatments. Outside of what's been mentioned, I'm not sure what other causes could be, aside from chemical or heavy metal exposure. As for treatments, the only one I know of is dosing with Vitamin B-12 regularly. Some people can get B-12 injections, I tried a B-12 supplement for quite some time, which I know did raise my B-12 blood levels considerably. Unfortunately, the B-12 did not help my Peripheral Neuropathy at all.

Hi Nathan, I have no diabetes or any chemo treatments or related things, BUT I am prediabetic at this time, via my last labs/bloodwork.

I do take a B12 supplement and only three times weekly.

I have chronic Osteoporosis, so perhaps this foot burning is due to both that and prediabetic?

My foot burning symptoms began about two months ago after my cortisone-steroid hip injection.

That has to be so uncomfortable for your wife, gosh all our individual ailments, not so fun.

In Googling "foot numbness" there is mention of Osteoporosis being a cause...https://tristanmed.com/blog/entry/whats-causing-your-foot-numbness
It wouldn't surprise me if that cortisone shot was a factor, either.

I have my feet poked and prodded twice a year due to Type 2 Diabetes that is under control witrh medication.

So far so good.

Get REAL (just made this silly acronym up)

Rest...don't stand for hours, sit some, take a nap,
do slow weightless exercise for circulation
like swim, ride a bike or adult trike, stationary bike,
low-riding bike (you're almost sitting on the ground)

Elevation..try elevating your feet on your bedroom wall
lay back flat, pillow under head, clean socks,
legs almost straight up the wall resting feet high up,
read a book or play on your phone while your
blood flows to your heart (it's comfy, no kidding)

An Apple a day and All nutrition fully balanced,
no sugar, no processed foods, less salt, less oil

Lose Weight...we have to be creative at our age,
do the "16/8 intermittent fasting", take a probiotic after
each meal for gut health, walk it off, and lots of water

PS...take 2 ibprofen PM before bed only when needed,
that will reduce swelling and less pain so you can sleep.
No more than 350mg magnesium a day if you need instant relief.
Ditch Flip-Flops. Buy Brooks Revel tennis shoes (or NewBalance)
