These figures are pretty much the work of drug gangs who run the city.

Some of these street shootings have killed children. Some children were in their homes when the bullets entered them.

And the anti-gun gun boys and girls wants the guns of us honest people? We never hear the word "gangs" when we hear about making guns illegal, even though most killings are done by gangs - who will NOT turn in their guns because of some law or other.

Remember, Kiddies, crooks don't obey laws.

A small town right below Gary. We originally lived in Chicago for over 60 years. Had to get out when the drugs and crime moved into the neighborhood. We moved to another suburban town south of Chicago. We had a neat two-story building. We had an 2nd floor rental which paid the mortgage and more. Then the bad ones evidently had followed us and began populating the town. We got out. We moved to Indiana to get away from Illinois.

We live on the outskirts of a fairly small town which has about 10,000 people in it. We have been settled down for over 20 years in a pretty much wild, wooded area. A flood over a decade ago drove out almost all the other home owners who thought they didn't flood insurance while living directly in the flood plain of a river. We did have insurance. Fema paid for our repairs.

That's about it. Now you know why I evince a certain caring about Chicago. The cretins ruined what once was the finest large city in America.

I rode through Gary once, on my way to Chicago for a friend's wedding. It just made me feel so sad. I couldn't help feeling sorry for the people stuck living there. Still, as bad as things are, in Chicago, Gary, Kensington PA and elsewhere, some hearts still have hope.

How they have and keep it, I'm sure I don't know but it's what I believe. Not everyone is bad and I imagine that some who are aren't all that happy being so. But I just thank my lucky stars that my life hasn't been so tainted by violence and crime that I ever lost hope for good.

I don't know where I was going with that line of thought but it just makes me sad to think that we always need to be on the defensive. It's only a short time in the year and I'm not a religious sort but that peace on earth, goodwill towards see men stuff, that truly touches my heart.

Okay, Buddy, take care and enjoy the evening and this site. The people here are as great as any I've ever run across and the price we pay to be a part of it, well, we're getting a bargain, that's for sure.

Hey, I appreciate the comments. I like to write things.

Why I continuously tackle this gun control issue is that I want to give answers and more info to those who do realize that honest people need guns. Not everyone can express their opinion that well to others. Maybe my sources of info will help that. Just maybe some of my logical points will also nail it for someone to close down some anti-gunner's non-logic and lies.

I click IGNORE on the mean ones, and also those who are so into their bubble that their posts are such absolute nonsense that they can't be real. They gotta be trying to pee someone off.

Sad indeed. Too bad we can’t crack the nut of the problem. Too many facets to unravel and fix. We are sooooo busy trying to do too many things, so divided as a country and so tired as a whole. We can not agree on simple things….let alone complex. So we get weaker as a nation and our people die….Rome is falling
 
I grew up in Chicago and left on my own when I was 17. I didn't like it, but back then crime was not the issue, although I lived 4 blocks from Cicero, which was Al Capone's neighborhood, but of course he was long gone. It was just too crowded for me. As kids, we rode our bikes down lonely streets after dark, and never worried at all, and I don't think our parents did either. We all felt safe. My sister still lives in the same neighborhood where we grew up, and shootings, muggings, and murder now occur in her neighborhood frequent enough to be alarming. Things have changed.

When I was 11 years old, on my own, I started riding the El, an elevated train to Downtown where I would walk to museums. It's now underground. A couple of years ago when visiting my sister, we took the same train downtown. There were signs in the cars saying, "If you feel threatened, move to another car," like that's a lot of help. At one point an armed policeman boarded our car with a muzzled Rottweiler, rode for two stops and then got off. I assume those two stops were trouble spots, and it seemed like an unusual beat for a cop.

As we rode past Cook County Hospital, my brother-in-law drily remarked, "If you are suffering from a gun shot or a stab wound, this is where you want to go. They have more experience than any other hospital in the country." I thought he may have been exaggerating, but I'm sure they get a snoot full of walk-ins bleeding on the floor each weekend.
 
This is the Chicago I remember:
It seems Chicago has always had a history of mobs and violence.
I lived in Chicago late 40's-early 50's, when the Lake Front was full of apartment buildings .... not Lake Shore Drive.
It was all about the Mafia back then.

Lived in an apartment building where the original Amos and Andy lived. .. they were white.

When I think of Chicago I think of the original Mayor Daley. Not pleasant to think about, so I hardly ever do.

I lived only a block from Lincoln Park by Belmont Harbor. Us kids lived in that park. I cannot imagine growing up in the part of the city in which you did. But that was in the mid '40s.

We all really know the nut of the political and crime problem. We just can't discuss it. Helpful discussion these days are labeled as Hate Speech. Censorship reigns today, even in Internet forums.

You will probably never know how many "legally owned" firearms helped prevent even more deaths, or rapes, or home invasions, or car jackings, etc. That kind of supportive news doesn't fit sensationalized media coverage or agenda, only doom and gloom does that.

Trust me when I say I am not happy about gun related crimes, or any crime. Untill someone gives me a garuntee there's not one criminal left who owns a gun I'm keeping mine and defending that right.
 
I am glad there are people with everlasting hope. I'm not being sarcastic or nasty. I really mean it.

But though at some point, people have to face reality and it's not pretty sometimes. For some it grounds them and for others it completely devastates them.

The only reason the human race has made it this far is by being on the defense. Being on the defense is not a paranoia as some have implied. That flight or fight has been bred into all living things for survival. When it has been lost, that species will be lost.

You and you alone are responsible for your safety. Just food for thought ... are you willing to protect what's most important to you (i.e., family) or do you want to follow the herd? Do you want to give up your rights to others who promise you safety and hope they deliver?

Too many people have made excuses for criminal behavior. We are seeing now the results when this happens. Enforce the laws already on the books & bring back serious punishments for the crime committed.

It's important people understand what that comment means.

I love and respect law enforcement, and believe they will do everything in their power to protect citizens. The reality is they do more after an incident than preventing an incident, it's impossible for them to be everywhere all the time. You're not getting a police escourt when you have to drive to the all night pharmacy at 2AM because your kid woke with 103 fever, but you have to go. When an intruder kicks in your homes door you may have seconds to defend yourself, your home alarm or phone won't get the police there fast enough to save you.

As an individual you are your famlies and your own first line of defense, I think it's important to understand that.
