As the saying goes, or is it the other way round?

I woke on Christmas day with something Bronchial,
that I can't shift, Doctors on Holiday, hospitals are
not interested, it is a common cold, they will say, so
after a couple of day of self medication, I am still
overheating, coughing is uncomfortable, I am not
really interested in food, oh, the whisky toddies have
let me down on this occasion.

Sorry for the moan.

Mike.

Oh no. Be careful it doesn't turn into Strep Throat as that can do permanent damage if gone untreated. Does your throat hurt when you swallow? Redness or white spots in the back of your throat? Tender swollen lymph glands on your neck? Swollen tonsils? Those are symptoms of Strep Throat...in addition to what you already have. If you get that then you'd need a doctor to prescribe an antibiotic. Get lots of rest.

Thank you ladies for caring and suggesting what could,
might help, throat doesn't hurt when swallowing, Lara,
chest hurts a bit when I cough, my temperature is 1.5C
over normal, I haven't tested for covid, I will though. I
have plenty of test kits here.

I will be OK, I am sure, I don't do sick, so I have no idea
how to handle it, or treat it, cough linctus seems to be
the best idea, if the chest wasn't rough, when I cough,
I wouldn't even bother about it, but it has been 2+
days with no improvement, hence my quest for answers,
or suggestions of what to do.

Thank you all for your help.

Mike.

Mike, I know you don't feel like eating but you might try some hot chicken soup or broth. You need some nourishment and to keep hydrated. It will speed up the movement of mucous in your nose simply because it's a hot fluid and that causes dilation of blood vessels which causes increased blood flow and allows the mucous to flush everything out. And that will also help alleviate congestion in your chest. Even though you don't feel like it drink some hot tea and other liquids to keep yourself hydrated. It's important. If you have some honey around try that to ease your cough.

I hope you feel better soon but if your symptoms don't improve in a couple of days, get thee to a physician!

Did you take a covid test, did you take your temperature, can you breathe okay?

Just be careful, if you even think you should go to Emergency care, that means your need to go to Emergency care.
Not Covid Blessed, I took your advice and tested.

I listened Bella, I had a Beef Tea and some toast, I also had Honey,
I know that, that is good for the throat.

Thank you both again for your help.

Mike.

Sorry for your illness. I use Zinc 50 mg, vitamin C 500 mg, many other suppliments.
For throat irritation, Swiss (menthol, lemon, eucalyptus) throat lozenges, very best is Riccola
sugarless, found on Amazon or ebay.

Drink Lots of fluid like cocoa, miso soup, tea with lemon and honey...
Avoid coffee, alcohol, tobacco.

Just my experience

Bon courage

The CDC defines flu symptoms to include fever (temperature of 100.3 degrees F [38 degrees C] or greater, or signs of fever such as chills, sweats, flushing, skin feeling hot) with cough and/or sore throat. In addition, you may experience headache, body aches, fatigue, nasal congestion, vomiting and diarrhea.

I gotta get my flu shot....jic

For Xmas we've learned to just send money, right color & size. Our 10 YO g-granddaughter was feeling sick at their family party (18 in attendance on Xmas eve). She was taken to the ER & diagnosed with a case of the flu (A) & cold (gift money sent just covered their co-pays). Last year her and her brother (15 YO) both contracted a mild case of Covid after their shots, masks & social distancing at the same school. It will be sad but interesting to see if others attending the party become ill, some had masks, shots, some not.

Hope you feel better soon! Honey and whiskey and chug it down fast, helps.
Hot chicken broth helps. Put Vick's Vaporub on the soles of your feet, and
warm socks when you go to sleep. (put them in the dryer a few minutes)
Rub Vicks all over your chest and throat. Snuggle under the blankets.
Take care my friend!

I hope you will get better Mike. There are usually some Cold and flu gels at the drugstore. Maybe someone nice could go get you some. They helped me a few weeks ago. Take good care 😘

Thank God it's not Covid.
Hot Lemon tea with an aspro in it ,1 teaspoon of honey mixed with butter for your throat, and cough every 4 hours.
And please stay warm.🤗
Keep us updated please.

It's feed a cold and starve a fever @Mike, but my grandmother used to feed both and she was right. Chicken soup or even clear broth is very good for you if you can manage it. Anything made with lemon juice can be beneficial because of the vitamin C and please drink lots of fluids to keep hydrated which is #1 when you are sick especially with a fever. Ginger tea sweetened with honey will help clear mucous out of your lungs.

Feel better my friend. ☺️

When I was a little kid it was starve a cold and feed a fever, but what it referred to was if you got an extra blanket when you were sick. I didn't know it meant eating until much later.

Update:
I improve as the day gets older, I take Paracetamol, then
a few hours later Ibuprofen, I am taking Beef Tea, Black Tea,
Coffee, Water, I take the last tablets half an hour before I
go to bed, I don't sleep through after all the liquid I have
drunk, but in the morning I am back to rough, the shower
helps, then the routine of, cough mixtures, tablets and drinks
starts again, it is almost 11AM, just now, so I should be OK
in another hour.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions, I appreciate
each one of you taking the time, to tell me.

Mike.

Last week I had a sore throat fro 6 days that kept getting worse, so I tried gargling salt water. I had recently read that it really helps and sometimes causes the cold virus to give up and leave because it changes th PH balance in your throat. So I did it that morning and felt better, did it again at bedtime and the next day I was well! 1/2 tsp salt mixed in 4 oz hot water.

I've never tried Vick's Vaporub on the soles of feet before. I'll have to try it.
