Snakes are deaf. They're aware of their surroundings by feeling vibration; not hearing.

That's a lot of snake, I've handled a 9ft constrictor and was aware of the power that the snake had....to make me Lunch, if he so desired.

Yeah, we ran over one, had to be 20+ feet, in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of South Africa.
Someone later asked if the snake was OK.
Yeah, I'm going to walk around in the bush in pitch darkness to see if a pissed-off snake is doing alright.
