Suspect arrested for murders of 4 Idaho college students.

Extradition hearing today. Suspect said to wave it to go back to Idaho to 'prove his innocence'

Also hearing report he may wind up with a public defender because no one is volunteering to take his case.

This does not seem to make sense. Lots of times either a well-known defense attorney, or an up-and-coming defense attorney will *want* a high profile case for the added exposure.
It is early and he hasn't even been formally charged in the state where he will be tried and lawyers are licensed. Once things are in motion in Idaho we'll probably see change.

I don't want to sound insensitive, yet today, someone killing four is a bad thing, but the crime will make the news once or twice. After a couple of news cycles, there will be a new "4 dead" story. to take its place. Why does this crime have more press & TV time?

Murder cases are all consuming cases. Few attorneys are willing to give up their income for a good portion of a year, And if an attorney isn't being paid, who will pay for his office staff, his research staff, his expert witnesses, etc. etc.

I think this one is getting more attention because of the bizarre circumstances... that someone could get into a house, stab four people to death in their beds, without any of them either alerting the other two people in the house, or even each other. Although there were some defensive wounds, it's extremely hard to believe that just one person was able to do that... and then walk away from it with all that carnage. Yes, there are other news stories where four people are killed, but there's so much unknown surrounding this one.

Just a guess, but pretty young photogenic blond victims might have something to do with it...

They say used DNA found on knife sheath left behind to DNA in family trash in Pennsylvania. They say criminals always make a mistake although that glaring.

So apparently a military knife was used ie the sheath for a Kbar.
You can now read the entire 19 page probable cause document. I downloaded it, but forgot what site I got it from.

They have a pretty decent case based on:

1) DNA evidence
2) video records of his car
3) smart phone location records (appears to show surveillance of the house over a period of time)

In spite of what the newspapers said, one of the survivors *did* hear things and saw the probable perpetrator just after 4:00 AM.

One of the things I saw over the last week his car was still registered in Pennsylvania until a couple weeks after the murders so not only did his white car stick out the Pennsylvania license plates did as well. He was definitely a suspect much earlier on than they led the public to beleive. They saw the Penn plates and were probably thinking transient and didn't want him to scare him away from the area.

Unless he spiked their drinks earlier in the evening...

Yes, they have arrested the suspect. Yes, he is in custody without bail.
What I cannot understand is the media continuing to treat him as if he is a celebrity now, or a hero. He is a murderer.
The news is advertising that tonight we can all learn how he spent his first night in jail.
REALLY?!?!
Let the law take over, and stop making him a subject that others with killing tendencies will look up to and see all of the constant attention he is given.

With respect, do you really feel that he's being treated as other than an oddity, an odd duck who may have killed?

I don't get any hint that he's being celebrated, or lauded as a hero.

I read most of it.

What I don't understand is why one of the surviors didn't call police right then? She saw him!!!! she heard crying from one of the victims, a thud and then actually saw the tall man wearing black wit a black mask on and bushy eyebrows leave the residence sometime before 4;30 am.

Yet, the police were not called until almost noon. What was wrong with her?

"D.M. opened her door again and "saw a figure clad in black clothing and a mask that covered the person's mouth and nose walking towards her," Moscow police officer Brett Payne wrote in the affidavit. "The male walked past D.M. as she stood in a ‘frozen shock phase.’" He walked by her and exited the second floor sliding glass doors, D.M. told police. "

In case anyone is interested, here is an article with the complete probably cause document:

The police knew quite a bit, and there appears to have been a witness to the entry/exit, at least.
I'm reading it now... not finished yet, but it's getting more and more confusing. Door Dash delivery at 4 a.m.? TikTok at 4 a.m. ?? So they weren't all asleep after all? Wow... it boggles. I'll go finish reading now, but it's even more bizarre than before. And the other resident SAW him but.... no, there's a lot more that hasn't come out yet... has to be!

I'm impressed that LE was able to keep so tight lipped about all the investigating that was going on behind the scenes.

ie: having the police stop him while he and his father were on route to PA to see if they could capture any wounds/marks on his hands.

Sifting through his garbage to confirm his DNA, that was left on the knife sheath.

It was a valid traffic stop for following too close. At that time he was not under any suspicion of murder, at least by what the Indiana Patrol knew.

Yes, in part.
There's a website that is pretty current w/info, and I believe it was stated that it was more than just a minor traffic stop.
