Here in the UK we have lots of slang words, some quite funny.

example.....

Why do some of us refer to the £ as a 'quid'......

"Quid" is a slang expression for the British pound sterling, or the British pound (GBP), the currency of the United Kingdom (U.K.). A quid equals 100 pence and is believed to come from the Latin phrase “quid pro quo,” meaning "something for something."

And on the other side of the pond......

Why do some folks in the US refer to the $ as a 'buck'........

'Buck' is an informal reference to $1 that may trace its origins to the American colonial period when deerskins (buckskins) were commonly traded for goods. The buck also refers to the U.S. dollar as a currency that can be used both domestically and internationally.

There are many thousands of slang words, do you have any that you use on occasion? 😊

Much of Cockney rhyming slang entered the mainstream lexicon, some of which baffles younger people today.
Here's an example that older Brits will smile at and everyone else will be left scratching their heads:
"Two and eight." When I got there, she was in a right two and eight.

We had some pretty good ones in the military. Not too many should be printed here.

One of the favorites while going through basic training is when the Sgt. calls a recruit a “dipshit.”
Or if a situation goes wrong, it’s called a “Charlie Foxtrot.” You can look that one up on the internet.

Flivver, as in, take the old flivver out for a ride. Like the way it rolls off the tongue.

flivver is a car as in the lyrics of the song It's Nice to Go Traveling "And the Hudson River Makes you start to quiver Like the latest flivver That's simply drippin' with chrome It's very nice to go trav'ling But it's oh so nice to come home

I do not know if this qualifies for slang but there are two phrases I picked up from two TV shows that I use instead of two common curse words.

Frack-From the Battle Star Galactica reboot
Sheeeet- From The Wire.
