Ladies: What's up with the bare legs?

I’ve been thinking about giving pantyhose a try myself. Where I’m at we have ticks, chiggers, no-see-ums, etc. There has been reports that pantyhose will keep the buggers from biting you. There’s nothing worse than having 10’s of seed ticks running up your leg.

I think I would rather wear pantyhose than spraying Deet all over me.

I always worked where dresses were preferred, but pants were allowed. On the rare occasions when I wore pants and skipped the pantyhose, my legs would be tired at the end of the day. I wore "sheer energy" pantyhose and the light compression on my legs really did help the blood flow back up to my heart. I liked wearing them. The "control top," even when I was 110lbs, was nice, making for a smoother look than all those panty lines.

I think sheer, nude-colored pantyhose do for legs what make-up does for the face. Seeing a woman all made up, elaborate hairdo, pretty dress, and then bare legged with red knees and childhood scars on full display, seems like, "what's wrong with this picture?" to me. I like that the Princess of Wales, who always looks perfect, usually wears them.

I'm with @Della on this one. I think pantyhose make legs look much nicer and they do smooth out the silouette. I also wouldn't like to put bare feet into shoes especially heels. It seems uncomfortable to me.

But I do have a complaint about the fit of pantyhose. I've had some that were too long and I was always hitching them up, and I've had some that were too short and they always felt like they were creeping down my body. It didn't matter what size or brand, they never seemed to fit right. Maybe I just have a weird body. Anyway, I don't wear them anymore since I no longer wear anything with a skirt.

I haven't worn tan tight for well over 20 years.... I usually wear trousers, or jeans and or Black 100 denier tights in winter .. in summer I wear dresses.. and shorts..

I would prefer to wear a dress in the winter BECAUSE I could wear pantyhose or tights. They're kind of like foundation on your face as they obscure imperfections. And there are many imperfections on older legs, unfortunately.
In the summer I would wear loose gauze or linen pants.
I so envy the ladies I see who despite vericose veins and such, wear dresses in the summer barelegged without a care.
I'm too uptight I'm afraid.

Exactly my view, too! Even when I weighed 110 lbs, even when I tanned up a bit in the summer, no matter what, if I had on a skirt or dress, I always wore the Sheer Energy pantyhose. The slight sheen also enhanced the overall look.

Back when I used to wear any dresses other than ankle-length, I used to wear panty-hose or tights and hated them, even the knee-high ones; they're too hot. And I think it was the OP mentioned when not wearing them, you'd have to put your sweaty feet into a shoe: my feet always sweat a lot more wearing panty hose; that's what baby powder is for, sprinkle it inside your shoes and forget the hose. And those knee- or even ankle-high hose? Uh uh, they feel like they're cutting off circulation. So phooey on any kind of hose or rights.

If you have Varicose veins or unsightly marks that are preventing you from wearing a dress in summer, there's leg make-up available to cover them.. I've seen it available online .. 🙂

two rather elder senior ladies were walking rapidly down the street when they passed a beauty parlor where a hot curling iron was being used. One lady remarked to the other,'do you smell that hot hair smell', the other replied' do you think we are walking to fast".

Leg make-up does not give the same benefits as smoothing your legs, giving them a nice sheen, and most importantly, it supports and energizes the legs with the stretch. There is no comparison, not to mention streaks from the make up and washing it off on your cloths. It stains.

Pantyhose was a relief compared to wearing stockings and girdles! Hose might be out of fashion but unless you're young naked legs don't look so flawless. Hollywood stars you see sporting bare legs that look fabulous are waxed or have had laser hair removal and are wearing body makeup. My bet is the older stars with naked legs have also had some type of vein removal procedure. Leg makeup might cover spider veins and a little discoloration, but it can't camouflage bulging varicose veins and as @Right Now said, it's difficult to apply evenly and stains.

When you're dressed up, I think hose polish an ensemble. That said, I can't remember the last time I wore a pair of pantyhose, except for wearing tights occasionally in the winter.

I remember seeing some older ladies wearing pedal pushers in a restaurant. They seemed quite happy. I'm too vain to show my busted veins about.

I wear leggings with a skirt (as in photo below), year-round. In very hot weather I wear a long skirt.

Yes. I have a short plaid skirt I used to wear with opaque tights. It was a black, grey red plaid and I wore it with a red sweater set. Loved that outfit!

awkward when i doff my wet/drysuit in public and the curious looks at my fishnet bodysuit... oops tmi?

well the strategy is to have a microflow of liquid movement between the body and the neoprene and it releases real well by eliminating vaporlock.

unfortunately mine is crochless but hey it's easy access. imagine that?
