What Would You Name a New Pet

Today as I was walking a saw a really cute puppy and decided if it were mine I would name it Dumplin(g). A second choice would be Riley and I’d probably be calling it dumplin half the time.

If you got a new pet what would name it? Maybe list your top three names.

Well I have a fairly new pet...got her Labor Day weekend. It took me a week before I finally decided on Deja (after seeing Naja in a list of names for girls). I think I'd have to see the pet to be able to consider what to name it. Choosing a name is hard..you should "see" what I went through to choose my son's name!

The last time I went into the pet shop I saw a black gerbil (very unusual). I am now debating whether to go back and buy it, as I had been intending to get one from the rescue centre but it turns out that they don't have any. I might name it Mavros....the Greek word for black.

I remember a pet group I belonged to suggested "listening" to our pets, observing them for a bit and they will "help: you choose a name. I remember when I picked up my last pair of pet rats. Had them in a little carrier on the front seat of my car, next to me. Suddenly, I heard, in my head a very loud "BEAR". I looked over and I swear, one of the little guys was standing in the carrier, little paws on the bars, looking right at me. Yep, from that moment, he was Bear

We never name a new "pet" right away. We wait until the name "appears". So far it works pretty well. Our cats we named "Tom-Tom" and "Ma Ma". Our goats we named "Shadow" and "Ghost". When we had lots of goats and hogs, we had the best names. We called the dominant male hog "Banker" and the queen female "Binky". The main rooster we named "Goodles" and his favorite hen "Betty". Our big white female dog "Snowball". :)

My dog's name is Joey, and I used to call him "Joe" for short, but I think that it sometimes sounds like "no!" to him, so he gets confused.

Since I realized my mistake, I always call him Joey. If I was to do it over again, I'd name him something that didn't sound like "no."

Due to limited space, I've actually turned down a puppy that wouldn't have grown to no more than 20 lbs.

But I'm looking for a needy kitten or two. Cats can live well in small spaces. Naming a cat is difficult without really looking at it.

I once got a kitten, looking over this 9 oz ball of fur, a name came to me, but not because of how it looked, but how we were destined to meet.

Her name was "Kismet" and to this day if I think of her, my eyes tear up. I loved my dogs, but for some reason, she grabbed my soul.

I have to meet the pet first and get a sense of their personality. I got my last two dogs from a rescue group in Louisiana so wanted a name that had a connection to that state. I had a few names already picked out and for my current dog chose to name her Desiree and call her Desi mostly. A close second choice was Gentilly - Tilly for short. I have a friend that names her pets, cat or dog, male or female, Max. Easier to remember she says?

I have a rather large name your baby book, though I had no children. I'm facinated with names. Perhaps because I hate mine. First, middle and last.

Anyway, after Chloe died, I waited 7 months to adopt my two. I had 3 names picked out. I used my top two: Juniper for my tabby and Talia for my calico. The names I had picked instantly fit and I knew which name belonged to which kitten right away.
