Question about Taylor Swift...

There is much media saturation of Taylor Swift---TV, printed media, etc. Gigantic sales figures.

I listened to some music. It's good and competent. But with regard to real remarkable talent, I don't see it.

What I *do* see, however, is that she is very photogenic and has a "look" that the camera loves.She is a recognizable brand.

I'm not saying that she's not talented, but certainly not to any remarkable level. She is, therefore, mainly a media creation.

My opinion, only.

Obviously you're not a young teen. That had been her primary audience but it has expanded as she's gotten older. I like her. She keeps her act clean and doesn't prance around half naked on stage. She writes her own songs as far as I know.

I don't dislike her and she seems a positive role model.

But how about serious talent, enough to justify the raves?

There are a lot of big stars out there who, in my opinion, can't sing their way out of a paper bag. But they have that "thing"....

Talent hasn't been as big a thing since the advent of music videos. But there have been very talented writers/performers.

I don't see her as talented as Alanis Morrisette was, or Tracy Chapman. She is much more photogenic, however.

It's how I see it, too. This is not BAD, per se, but it does not represent talent as much as skilled handling.

I'm fine with it. She seems pretty nice and positive and does not revel in the image of a ho.

I'm not criticizing but evaluating and categorizing for my personal worldview. Sometimes I find that it puts people off but it is the only way I know how to live. I would be lost otherwise.

You sound like Kayne West .... he isn't into Taylor's music either. ...I remember when he got on stage to interrupt her acceptance speech at the VMA awards show about 10 years ago ... he thought it should go to Beyonce.
