Question about Taylor Swift...

Right, but remember, I was concerned about talent, not image. In fact, I postulated that she was an image rather than a musical talent.
Isn't that what it's all about these days .. image? Lady Gaga comes to mind, among others.

This from WealthyGorilla website ..

As of January 2023, Taylor Swift’s net worth is estimated to be $400 Million; which secured her the top position in Forbes’s list of top-earning women in music and has put her on our list of the richest singers worldwide.

...
not too shabby!

When she first hit the spot light I thought there's no way she has staying power. To me it's like she talks her way thru songs, not really showing any vocal range or talent.

Guess she showed me, people love her and she is an absolute mega star, and I'm still a clueless old guy.

I'm trying to separate the elements of the entire package.

I think she is very pretty, vivacious, and positive. Her image is upbeat, pretty much wholesome as judged by today's standards.

I *like* her.

But none of this has to do with vocal or songwriting talent.

People seem to think that if you like someone, they're beyond criticism in their chosen aspirations. Conversely, if they don't like someone, nothing that person does is right.

I don't think that's a good way to go thru life.

Well different strokes for different folks. My favorite male voices are the “beer and cigarettes” type. Think gravel. Give me a pristine singer and they can bore me to tears. Catchy tunes can create ear worms that last YEARS. That is what I want.

Tom Waits?

Here's a real earworm for me, it comes it every Christmas.

Last Christmas by Wham

I don't even like Wham, or anything to do with that kind of pop, but damn! this song has lots of potential for varied stylistic vocal interpretations.

Sometimes I wonder if, after someone writes a really good popular song, they instinctively *know* that they have something of great value?

Like the Eagles putting together Hotel California, the Beatles with Yesterday, etc.?

I like most of Nirvana, but don't really expect everyone to agree.

To me Taylor Swift sounds like every other female Pop singer out here (with at least a couple of exceptions: Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande). They are mostly cookie cutter with no range and power in their voices. I never did see the big deal about Taylor. I know one thing...she has a lot of problematic relationships, which she then writes songs about.

There is much media saturation of Taylor Swift---TV, printed media, etc. Gigantic sales figures.

I listened to some music. It's good and competent. But with regard to real remarkable talent, I don't see it.

What I *do* see, however, is that she is very photogenic and has a "look" that the camera loves. She is a recognizable brand.

I'm not saying that she's not talented, but certainly not to any remarkable level. She is, therefore, mainly a media creation.

My opinion, only.

What's yours?
As one of the top pop artists she does write all her own songs and has put out a lot of top hits. She might not be your cup of tea but she is definitely musically talented.
Many, if not most singers, have others write the songs they sing.

you know what in re -reading this.. I wonder why back 90 years ago when the King got entangled with the divorcee Wallis Simpson and ultimately married her, she was almost universally called''Mrs Simpson''.. even long after they were married, up until she died in fact...

I wonder why the Divorced Meghan Markle wasn't referred to as... Mrs Engleson !!

that song is universally despised by the vast majority in the UK.. we get it served up on a never ending cycle for every day in every December... wherever we go.. Malls, shops, stores, anywhere they play music

Taylor Swift is a Multi Grammy award winning singer/ song writer and youngest artist in history to win album of the year award in 2010.

She’s won Billboard’s Women of the year, award as well as artist of the year award in the American Music Awards. She’s won entertainer of the year awards for both Country Music Association and the Academy of a country music. She’s actually the TOP selling digital artist in history to date.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Taylor donated to the World Health Organization and to Feeding America. Meanwhile, in her country music home of Nashville, she paid for three months of health insurance for the entire staff of local record store, Grimey's, which was struggling to stay afloat during the pandemic.

She supports many charities as well as doing many benefit concerts.

She’s given millions to the Taylor Swifts Education Center in the Country Hall of Fame. She donated 4 million to the museum so that children can explore music through workshops

2.5 million was donated to UNICEF who supplied clean water to those around the world who didn’t have any which she did by asking celebrities to donate their own water including herself.

She’s an active supporter of the Make a Wish Foundation and had supported many women’s sexual assault foundations and is a CEO of a foundation which helps to prevent child abuse and sexual abuse

Taylor also goes above and beyond for her fans. In the past she has famously covered tuition fees for struggling college students, and even once bought one fan a house.

She has 85.4 million listener fan base who tune into what’s she doing each and every month.

You might not like her style but children throughout the world adore her. Being a contemporary pop artist means she performs popular music that’s relative to what’s happening in the world today and does it exceptionally well; choosing the perfect words with catchy phrases and matching it with uplifting music.

She writes about real life situations that her audience / fans connect with which really is the goal of any good musician.

No she doesn’t have a wide vocal range at all but she obviously doesn’t have to. She’s using her gifts to the best of her ability and being a great role model for others.

On top of that she’s 5’11” tall, dresses fashionable, is good looking and produces interesting current videos. She’s well spoken, has a great attitude and is highly respected. What’s not up like?

She makes 150 million a year doing what she loves to do. That’s not too shabby . What she does in her private life is none of my business nor do I personally care, even if she’s in the Tabloids. I’m more interested in her as an artist and how she helps others, not in the smutty gossip about her which ALL famous people endure.

I, for one, have no opinion of her, since I know zilch about her. Other than what the media blitz is that is, and I don't read it. I've never heard her sing at all.
So glad I'm not alone. Taylor Swift? Whose Taylor Swift? Google can save you from embarrassment.
