Six-year-old in custody after shooting teacher

There were four warnings about this kid & gun that day. The last decision was "oh, it's almost the end of the school day" !!!!!!!!!!!

It was almost the end of a 25 year old teacher. I'm outraged. Heads should roll.

Now the way this is being handled and reported, it is as if no human agency was involved. The gun just up and unlocked itself, loaded itself, racked a round into the chamber, actively evaded any search (as claimed by the school), jumped into the kid's hand, flicked off the safety, and discharged of its own agency.
Like this gun......

Latest on Court TV...
6 yr old.will not be charged.

Where is the responsibility..these days?

What about the parent(s)..if there are any..of any substance?

It is ridiculous that this 6 year-old will not even go to a juvenile detention center. He clearly has mental issues and his parents are not able to control them. Future mass shooting, anyone?

Good point. I certainly have sympathy for any 6 year old, no matter what they do. However I also believe the safety of the community is important, probably more important.

What I don't know is how likely a kid like this is to do something like it again. As you say could he be a future mass shooter? Its an important question, not one I have an answer to.

At 6 years old, the child doesn't have a developed morals or conscience, or not fully developed, anyway. They're not fully developed until a person is in their late 20s. The child should have a sense of right and wrong at that age, though, and should know that shooting someone with a gun is wrong. The parents are to blame for not instilling that in their child and for not adequately securing the firearm. Or for being too frickin' stupid to be allowed to have children.

I think that child should face some sort of disciplinary action, otherwise he'll grow up believing there are no consequences for doing wrong. His parents should definitely be charged and that child removed from their custody.

I truly don't believe that a six year old child has the capacity to think about his/her actions and the consequences, children are, I think impulsive. At such a young age, this child needs guidance rather than punishment. The parents, on the other hand, have raised the child and left a loaded gun where the child could take it, they are absolutely responsible for what happened that day.

The USA is an outlier. At the state level, 28 states have no minimum age of criminal responsibility.

Afghanistan 12 years of age
China 12
Russia 14
France 13
Germany 14

Simply due to the fact there may be no common law or statutory minimum age, that hardly means a State will have the audacity to charge a 6 year old. Although rare, a Federal court can intervene in a State Prosecution if Justice will be served.
