Truth is ______________.

truth... like the layers of understanding?
Yes, but also the complexities of a particular truth, particularly if emotions are involved. I think of it as the architectural bones which are the foundation. Work with them, and both therapist and client
grow. Forgive me if I seem obtuse, I am attempting to describe something which is very lateral, somewhat intuitive.

thank you... this explanation offers an opportunity to make the much needed comparison.

Truth is, that which hurts to admit, to see, to acknowledge and to follow when you don't want to. Truth makes us better, not worse, for if we lie, we dishonor ourselves and those who taught us not to.

If we admit our lies, we turn away from hiding evil and expose it. We become honorable and a trusted friend.
Kant said a lie is more a violation of one's duty to oneself than of one's duty to others...
I agree..

I believe some truths have layers, rather than a singular, linear point. They can also be varied, depending on the situation, or the persons involved. This is one of the complexities of my particular job. It can be challenging to wade through in order to help my clients.😊
I understand "layers" as mitigators or mitigations surrounding the truth. There is rarely a straight line to truth ...

Q. ChatGPT, what is truth?
A. Truth is a concept that refers to a state of being in accordance with fact or reality. It is often used to describe an idea or belief that is accurate or conforms to a standard of accuracy and honesty.

I first interpreted the title of this thread as giving an example of truth rather than defining truth.
But examples define truth. So here's one...

Truth is...
...that Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the Truth.

1 Corinthians 13:4-6

My faith-based response to what is truth...

Truth is within. It's in our heart, mind, and soul.
Our heart, when softened, opens to it. Our mind believes it.
Our senses fully aware. Our soul embraces it.
Even if we we're blind our eyes still see truth.

"...and the truth will set us free"
John 8:32

For my mother, "Truth" was what she chose to believe. It was always best to tell her what she wanted to hear.
Unfortunately, this is the current trend....saying what people want to hear, not the truth.
