What are you doing today 2023

£25 tip @StarSong ?.. wow that's a third of the Bill...
I've always been a very heavy tipper. My mother, a NYC waitress before I was born, was a very generous tipper and instilled that habit in her children. She told us that anyone who works on their feet all day is really, really working.

I'm home, dear invisipeeps!

The sun is shining brightly, and there's no wind. Yippee. It's only 48F so the sun helps it to feel warmer. We've been promised a warm up into the 60s starting on Monday. I can handle that.

Birds must be like people and eat more when it's cold. The feeder was empty after being filled just yesterday afternoon!

Walmarting to be done either later this afternoon or tomorrow morning. It's not my favorite place to have to shop, but Kroger doesn't have the bubble wrap that I need to wrap some glass stuff for the trip to Goodwill.

Scheduled to work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday. New Lady is scheduled to work Monday, Wednesday, Friday. On Wednesday and Friday Retired Lady will be there. too. On Monday? Me. And New Lady. Nobody else. Just the two of us. At least she's only scheduled for 4 hours each day, meaning she won't be there until 8, and I can get a lot done in two hours.

On Monday morning, please everybody face the East for a moment of silent prayer that I'm able to exercise the patience that's not in my DNA.

Now I'm gonna, as we say in the South, "set a spell" and rest my weary bones.

Yesterday's experiment (adjusting my routine to survive winter blahs) was a success. Expecting less of myself, doing less, but doing okay.

Today I'll meet my local language partner. I'll buy some precooked burger patties from the fast food place, so I won't have to cook for a couple of days. Then stop off at the grocery store.

I had planned to also stop at the library, but I think that's too ambitious.

So I'll go home, talk to my long-distance language partner, and do my half hour of exercise. Then bed.

You lost me, someplace, with that schedule, @Georgiagranny
Does no one work on Thursday?
Is Kroger closed on Thursdays??o_O
Is Kroger open on Thursdays, but the most important counter in the store has no people, no croissants, and no chocolate chip cookies?:oops::eek:

😬😁☺️

🤣 @Kaila There are four people who work in the bakery. Sir, Retired Lady, New Lady, me. Our work week is Sunday through Saturday. My days off next week are Sunday and Thursday. Sir and Retired Lady are scheduled to work those days.

Sir and Retired Lady work five days. Sir usually starts at 5 or 6 and is off at 1 or 2; Retired Lady works 8-4. New Lady had been scheduled two days from 6-12, but next week she works three days from 8-12. I finally got lucky and only had to work four days 6-12; now back to five days 6-12.

I guess they figured that although there's a lot to learn it's not rocket science, and after the first three weeks, New Lady could pick up the slack so that I could just work four days. They figured wrong.

When I started and whenever there's been someone new, the first three days the schedule noted that we were "training." After that, we were just regular employees. New Lady is still shown on the schedule as "training" after three weeks.

She's not stupid but not one bit motivated to learn anything to get the job done, probably because she knows she's going to have surgery and won't be there long anyway.

Truth to tell, she's as useless as teats on a boar hog and more in the way than helpful.

Sigh.

Oh...and not to worry, when I'm not going to be there the next day, I make sure that plenty of cookies have been baked and packaged and that the racks are set up and the croissants are laid out for whomever is opening up to be proofed and baked in the morning. The croissants are packaged and on the shelves by 9, thus making our customers happy and making Kroger safe for democracy and stuff.

Thanks for the reply about the schedule, and especially for this most important part. Whew! I will not need to go to bed at night, upset and worried, after all. :giggle:

@Georgiagranny: do you make those delicious chocolate filled croissants? I circle the croissant table every time I’m at Kroger, and always wonder if you make those at your store. Those things are wonderful !!

Sure do and they disappear almost as fast as I can get them cool enough to package and put on the table.

One morning before I could get them packaged, a customer saw them on the rack and asked how soon they'd be ready because her son was waiting in the car for her to get some. I made up a package then and there...and she wanted to know if I'd do one more. She went away happy. I assume her son was happy, too :)

I wish I had one right now! Problem is…I’m a diabetic. Try not to buy them very often because I can’t stop eating them once I get started.

~Early in the morning, I did some spreadsheet-ing for my son’s account with me. I keep track of what he owes and what he needs to pay by when. I also make note of the cash backs he’s due and deposit the totals into his account quarterly.
~Cleaned and straightened up a bit.
~Went on FB to react to the over 100 comments on the HBD posts I made for my grandchildren, who's birthdays fall within three weeks of each other. Some comments need personal responses. I won’t finish it all tonight.
~Sent out a few emails.
~Chatted with a good friend who called. We had a lot of catching up to do so we were on the phone for two hours. We always wind up having belly laughs, which is good for her because she stays so stressed out. She’s always very grateful for the release.
~Also talked with my granddaughter who’s away at college and honorary granddaughter (her half sister), who now lives in S.C. I love it when I get a chance to talk with my "babies". :D

Busy day today. Driving down to my old home town Wigan for a couple of big freelance photography jobs. Also using it to take Mum down there to spend the day with her friend. Maybe get some time in at one of my old trainspotting haunts near Warrington to see if any of the old regulars are there :)

@Oldntired We only put four of those chocolate croissants in a package. You can un-tempt yourself by taking just one out to eat and freezing the others. Put the other three in the freezer before munching out on the one you intend to enjoy. Out of sight, out of mind. Then when you want one another time, take just one out of the freezer.

Make a deal with yourself to only eat one every week...pick a day...like every Tuesday.

@Lady Enjoy your visit. She's 92? I hope she remembers you, too. If I'm around that long, I'm not sure I'll remember me!

So. Off today. It's supposed to be 59F or maybe even 60F. And sunny. Suits me.

Have already finished two small loads of laundry and it's folded or hung up and put away. Virtuous. I'm virtuous

When DD is up, awake, dressed, we're off to Wallyworld. In the olden days, way back in the way back, shopping was fun. Wallyworld has made it just another disagreeable chore.

yes that's true, and they should really really be paid a living wage by their employers instead of expecting the public to pay their wages

Glorious Sunny day.🌞🌞🌞. Not long back from town. Had to go to the workshop and get a new shower head, which I've fitted now... still got to try it out because it's a much cheaper version than the one I had...

Stopped off at the supermarket to buy a few little bits.. £48...

Got it all away and now sitting have my lunch of tempura prawns ...waiting for a delivery...

Went for a walk this morning on a mixture of road and farm tracks. Took a bit longer than we thought, but it's a fairly pleasant day.
I've also had some very nice prawns for lunch. I get them from the mobile fishmonger who calls every Friday.

I'm going to cook a beef rib roast for dinner. Not sure what vegetables to cook with it, but I'll find something.

She does get a living wage, but I'd rather err on the side of generosity. She does a good job and charges very reasonable rates.

Minimum wage in Los Angeles is $16.04/hour.
