What are you doing today 2023

@HoneyNut, I was thinking about you last night. How are you settling in? Have you been able to find any furniture yet?.

I was thinking that where you are offers a lot of intersting places to go. Will you be taking some little trips come spring. I love Maryland, friendly people, great food, little towns to explore.

There must be something wrong with me. I not only don't give a rip about the super bowl, I don't even care about the halftime show or the commercials. Am I the only one? Do I need therapy?

That sNOwflake I saw earlier must have been a rogue because there haven't been any more. Rain, though. Lots of rain.

Check this: The high temp tomorrow is only supposed to be 48F. The predicted high temp on Monday? Pushing 65 and sunny.

Big news here: DGD is getting an apartment (and a roommate). She's moving April 1. The roomie is an acquaintance, not a bestie, which I think is a grand idea. The best roomie I ever had was someone I knew from Girl Scout camp and who was in a couple of the same classes in high school. We knew each other, but we weren't joined at the hip. It worked out fine. I've always said the quickest way to lose a best friend is to have them for a roomie!

She's over the moon and ready to start "adulting," as she turns 23 April 12.

This might be kind of interesting. She won't drive so will be taking public transpo or maybe Uber? to work. I can't picture her living without Mom's Taxi Service at her disposal.

nope, @Georgiagranny, you are definitely not the only one who doesn’t care about the superbowl. I can’t even be bothered to pretend to be excited 😜

Thanks for thinking of me and asking! I'm very happy to be in my place but I wouldn't go so far as to say I feel settled in yet. A lot of things haven't found their "right place" yet, such as it took me awhile to find where I'd put the new package of soap bars that I'd bought and put away.

Since I don't have any pots or pans I haven't tried to use the stove at all (except since it is a glass top one I've been using it like extra counter space). I long for the misc items I used to have (paper towel holder, measuring cups, clocks, marker pen, binder clips, filing folders in a filing cabinet, etc etc), but I'm getting used to doing without and letting those things come in the future.

I don't have enough furniture yet to avoid hearing an echo when I sneeze. But I did acquire one little piece that I found downstairs in the trash area last week! The top is all scuffed up, but insides of the drawers are very clean. It is a nightstand I think, but it is a little shorter than my bed so I decided to, for now, continue using the taller roomier folding table that I had gotten from Walmart. I'm using the little nightstand in the living room to put my purse and hiking bag on. I relocated the cardboard box I was using for that to the empty dining room and it is now in use by the cat as a short-cat-assist up to the window ledge. Baby steps!

I guess I should start considering some little trips, I'll put that on my mental list (behind 'learn my way to and from Walmart without needing GPS' ha ha - tho I blame google maps because it keeps changing its instructions, presumably to avoid traffic slowdowns, but it makes me feel perennially lost).

That was a very good find. It will come together, just take your time. Spring is coming, there will garage sales. Also, do some research on criags list, they list garage sales, estate sales. You can pick up some really nice things at estate sales.
Sometimes, if you see something you like but the price seems a little high, make a bid. Carry a little notepad with you, I would leave my name and number, what I would pay and sometimes I would get the call. If I see something I think I have to have, I would get it right then. It pays to be there early, as now so many people are doing it for a resale business. Dealers can make it harder for us folks that just want quality things at a good price.

I am glad you are happy in your new home!!

@katlupe and @hollydolly Kat you asked what the tribute to my husband would be about and HD you commented that since I didn't find the day I went over to city hall perhaps it would be up another time. I was thinking you were right because I already knew about the reception before February came in. Yesterday I got an email from the coordinator (now I know why my honorary son wanted to confirm my email address). It read as follows (except I left out the name of our city and location of the event).
"Peace & Blessings:
You & your family are cordially invited to the Opening Reception of (our City’s) Black History Month Exhibit featuring a display of Black Art & a Historic Exhibit of (our City’s) Black History! We are honoring the legacy and accomplishments that your and our family members have achieved while residing in the City. The Reception is Thursday,
February 16th at 5pm."

Now I'm curious to see if any of my relatives on my maternal side will be featured. I have a great, great aunt who played an impressive part in our city's history according to a Black historian who participated in the Black History program my husband and I coordinated several years ago.

It must be thrilling to have your family honored for their work. So many leaving a legacy for future generations, that would include you and your son's musical gifts as well.

Nothing wrong with you. Neither my son nor I care about the Superbowl. My husband wasn't into sports either so we never watched football. I am curious about the half time hype though. At some point the performances will probably be on You Tube. I doubt I'll watch all of them or even all of one of them.

Congratulations on your family's accomplishments! You must be very proud and rightly so.

What's the Superbowl ?
Super Bowl, in U.S. professional gridiron football, the championship game of the National Football League (NFL), played by the winners of the league's American Football Conference and National Football Conference each January or February. The game is hosted by a different city each year.
The use of the term, football, is something of a misnomer. It's not called gridiron for nothing!

Big deal football game between the two (arguably) best teams in the US. An opportunity for everybody who sells anything to make big, big money and for everybody who's a football fan to spend big, big money.

Meh.

It's Sunday. It didn't sNOw. It did rain, and the wind was awful...blew down a lot of trees so there are people without power. So far it hasn't affected our neighborhood.

I have to go make croissants and bread and stuff.

do you mean American Football ?.. not real football ( soccer)...

Yeah. American football. It's when a bunch of buff young guys in tight pants run around throwing or carrying a sort of oval shaped "ball" around on a long field of grass and attacking each other trying to take the ball away before the carrier or catcher can get to the other end of the field.
if you touch the Ball in the UK much less carry it , it's Rugby...

You've got it! Do you know where the word soccer came from? Originally football was nothing more than a brawl, there were no rules of the sort we know today. So when one William Webb Ellis whilst playing at The Rugby School, picked the ball up, no rule had been broken.

There followed a schism, those who opposed handling called their game Associated Football and those who didn't called their game Rugby Football. The abbreviation for associated is "Assoc," from which the word soccer was derived. So now you know.

yep they sure are. I love to watch Rugby... don't care about football
Normally my wife is a shy, demure lady, but how she can give voice on the terraces at a Rugby match. She found out that I played Rugby at school and later at college, from some old photos that she came across. Following my promotion and relocation from London to Daventry, Northamptonshire, forty odd years ago, she got into Rugby watching the six nations on TV. From there we went along to see The Northampton Saints, oh wow, she was in her element. There's not much Rugby around here but if The Saints are playing in London or Bristol it gives us the chance to go and see them.

No, you're not the only one and no, you don't need therapy. I am also not interested in the super bowl. In fact, when a commercial starts about the super bowl, I change the channel because I don't care about it and I get tired of hearing Super Bowl this, Super Bowl that every time I turn around.
