Using the Ignore Option

In most cases I take people off ignore after a few weeks and try again.

I just checked - I have three people on ignore, all of whom have all been booted from the forum, so it looks like I wasn't the only one who found their posts offensive.

I have a few people on ignore, simply because they can't make a point without making personal attacks. I have no time for those people and don't care what they have to say.

I don't use ignore button anymore. While it is tempting, at times, no one is 100% wrong... just like none of us can be 100% correct.

If someone is rude or if you find their posts offensive then I think ignore is a good option. I only have one person on ignore and can't say I miss not reading their posts

I once put someone on ignore on another forum just so I did not have to look at their avatar picture. Not sure how it works here, does the avatar show up still?

No, a question mark in place of the avatar shows up. At least it does for the people I put on ignore (only two by the way).

yep same here, but there's still a few to go..one in particular keeps getting booted and then allowed to return until the next time. Hopefully it won't be long before they're permanently gone..

I don't know HD but I see a gray question mark when one of the people I have on ignore posts a thread or comments on one. I don't remember if that happens with the other one because I don't see his posts much anymore.

hmmm.. that's not fair. The whole idea of having them on ignore is that you don't get to see them or even be aware that they've posted at all...

In my years of participating in forums, I've officially "ignored" one person.

Usually I can just skip a person's posts. Or I might selectively read some of their posts.

But when a poster is very prolific, and seeing their posts or avatar consistently makes me feel bad, I'm glad there's an Ignore option. Without it, I might have to quit the forum.

I think I know who you mean if you're referring to a quite new member. I also found her very provocative and offensive. She hasn't posted recently so perhaps she's been suspended or banned.

Edited to say: oops, apparently there are a couple of these. One is still quite active.

My whole family thinks that stick figure is me.

So, no. I couldn't possibly put anyone on ignore and risk missing something.

Though seriously, if someone is truly offensive all the time, I think we should report them and save us all from upset.

Someone would have to be really, really bad for me to ignore them. I've never used it.

Almost is not 100%. Of course, some folks are very thin skinned as well.

What someone you've put on "Ignore" posts does show up however in emails you get from the site about activity in your watched threads. With gmail it does anyway.

Getting email notifications of forum activity is in the Forum's settings, has nothing to do with Gmail.

yes well for me ..if anyone starts being abusive to me.. for no reason other than they're P****s.. then they're immediately put on my ignore list

I had to check, there is a couple on my Ignore list, one's gone(no big surprise) and the other I don't even recall, but is evidently still here.

Granted, it can be tempting, but the result is an echo chamber of thoughts, ideas, etc.

I don't have anyone on "ignore"....I am grown up you see... and... can
handle people's foibles.
I am amazed at the lack of maturity when some people blame others for their
not being able to face a situation.
When I see a post by a whinger...I skip it at great speed
