What have you bought recently?

I bought a cake to take to the Valentine's Day dessert potluck in my building. It cost $50, seemed kinda pricey but I never bought a cake at a bakery before, so I don't know what is normal. This was its description:
"Chocolate cake and chocolate mousse followed by a layer of yellow cake and white chocolate mousse, topped with chocolate ganache."

I hope they loved it.

They’ve changed the recipe of my favourite French Vanilla ice cream. There was a new label. I was just finishing up the old carton and could compare with the new. The new is bright white; the yellow dye is removed. Guess that’s fair. It says the fat content is higher in the new one but it tastes bland.

Wearing my new spearpoint collar to work, a young twenty-something asked: "When did the collar come back in fashion?"
He was sitting at his desk and his computer was switched on. "Google Skyfall," I said. He did, then sat there staring at the screen.
"I have never noticed that before," he replied, quite shocked. "Some of us have standards," I said with a grin.

Began shopping yesterday for non-perishable foods for our upcoming 70s party in ten days.

This morning I've been looking at 70s decorations online. Almost everything involves disco. While I don't mind dabbling in that arena just a bit, it's not my main theme.

These two things caught my eye. The flowers can be taped onto bathroom and other doors, and the lights should be fun for the party and might occasionally entertain toddler grandson for a few years, too. Thoughts?

Love the lights but I think the stickers are more leaning to the 60's. Was there any sort of disco mirrored ball that would be great!

that's the problem.. the whole of the 70's got daubed with the Disco theme.. ..so when looking for 70's items it's hard to avoid it.. Good idea about the lights, altho' I suppose the flowers might shout 60's Hippy rather than 70's.. it won't matter at all

I figure my younger guests (born in the 80s and later) won't know the difference and the older ones will remember that hippies spilled into well into the mid 70s. (The US didn't leave Vietnam until 1975.)

In either case, I find the flower-power theme more fun and definitely more palatable than going strictly disco.

Am still debating about these. Amazon will deliver my order tomorrow. Once I see the lights, I'll figure out how/where I might stage a disco ball or two to work with them.

Ah yes..of course the US did have the Hippy generation well into the 70's I remember that now.. we didn't ...:D

A very exciting find. For over two years I’ve been watching at the thrift stores for the plain white Corelle dishes for DIL. In that time I’ve only found two b&b plates. Found a like-new, medium large serving bowl for $2, less 25% for seniors. Grand total of $1.61, with tax. I’m keeping it for myself, since I don’t have one.

Sorry, had to laugh, looking for the DIL but you are keeping it. Kind of get it, I love Corelle. It used to be a cheap option, now it is so expensive. It will break, they said it wouldn't but I have broken many pieces. I have some from old sets still. A few cups, bowls and saucers. I am a wierdo, I hang onto things most would throw out. I even have pieces of my MIL's daily dishware.

Welp. Check this: I have $$ today. I forgot to spend some. Forgot. Who forgets to spend money?

I'll blame it on the feeling of well-being from having those five half gallons of ice cream safely stashed in the freezer. Either that, or Oldtimer's Disease is kicking in.

No, you were just full up from all those free chocolate croissants you ate. You could not go shopping because you had to get home for a glass of milk and a good nap! LOL
