The family reunion was just a week away, every year it was a wonderful time for everyone, well
most everyone that is. Some traveled from afar, a mix of locations. A time to get together and
catch up on life, so time to plan, and it starts now...

Aunt Millicent was the matriarch of the family. Prim and proper, this maiden lady was keeper of the family purse, as well as the receptacle for family secrets. Imagine the family's shock upon arriving at their hired B&B in finding Aunt Millicent dead on the foyer floor, her head encased in a plastic bag, her fingers clutching at her throat, where the bag was tied with silver ribbons...

Cousin Willow, is closing her cafe for 10 days to attend the reunion. At
now the age of 52, she can comfortably do so, as business has been
good. The Millstone Cafe will put up its sign in a week or so. Closed while
on vacation. Willow is the one who does much of the baking at the family
reunions and of course some of it will be catered. I have so much to tend
to!

My phone is ringing steady the past hour, some talk of Aunt Millicent, I
better listen attentively to all the messages now!

Cousin Willow, in shock of the news of Aunt Millicent, and as she cries, tears
roll down her face and onto the necklace and gold pendant that Auntie had
gifted her on her 50th birthday...

Upon arrival at the crime scene detectives were frustrated by the family members all gathered around Aunt Millicent's dead body. Learning prior to their arrival a plastic bag & silver ribbons were removed by uncle Jasper the detectives immediately took him to a separate area for questioning.

Willow felt a chill about her, remembering those years ago, the inheritance from her sister who had
passed suddenly and it all landed in Willow's lap. "I did not want it, really I didn't" pondered she. So
said that Millicent was wearing the same necklace when found dead, how could this be! Uncle Jasper
told Millicent more than once, to never wear that necklace, so why did she...

Willow tried to shake off the feeling of doom and gloom.
What is it about that necklace?

Could it be cursed or is there something that Uncle Jasper is not telling?

She made up her mind, there is more to the Necklace's origins than anyone knows, she narrowed her eyes as she watched Uncle Jasper's behavior, he seemed normal enough, what are the detectives on about?

Uncle Jasper spent time with the detectives stuttering a lot while he was explaining he thought Aunt Millicent moved so he did what he thought was best. He removed the plastic bag in order to try reviving her. The detectives took his statement but wanted to question the others about how long it had been since anyone had talked to Aunt Millicent. Meanwhile cousin Willow was busy telephoning other family members that didn't show up yet, or so she thought.

As the last of the family members arrived, the atmosphere at the B&B became more tense. Some sat alone, others gathered in small groups, speculating about Aunt Millicent's death. Everyone had their own theory about what happened, but no one could say for sure. As the various conversations died down, cousin Willow's phone rang. It was a call from her brother who had some news to share. He had found a letter from Aunt Millicent, which was addressed to Willow. It had been hidden away in his attic. It was a letter that would change everything they thought they knew about their family and their past – how little did they know? As the family gathered around, Willow relayed the letter from the phone call…

Everyone was transfixed, some holding their breath in anticipation of what will be revealed.
Suddenly a loud bang came from the other side of the phone.

Willow's blood ran cold as she yelled into the phone "David... David are you there?" There was a sickening thud and all went quiet.

We have to call the police Uncle Jasper uttered in no more than a harsh whisper, he became pale as all the blood ran from his face and he started gasping for air...

Was David murdered like Aunt Millicent?! Should other family members be concerned for their own lives now? Willow was beside herself worrying about what may have happened to her brother. She was also intrigued and mortified at the same time as to what that letter might contain. What if it was the killer at David's house and what if he/she was after the letter that may contain scandalous information with which to blackmail family members! 😱

At that point Uncle Jasper’s face went from white to blue, the family gathered around him in a panic. But to everyone's surprise, he suddenly broke wind that echoed throughout the room. "Oh, excuse me," he said with a sheepish grin. "I had one too many slices of Aunt Millicent's famous fruitcake." Fortunately the ‘tension’ in the room evaporated as the family nervously burst out laughing at the unexpected turn of events. "Well, at least we know who's been stealing all the fruitcake!" Cousin Willow quipped.

Despite the circumstances, the family couldn't help but find humour in the situation. As they waited for the detectives to come back into the room, they all indulged in a slice of Aunt Millicent's fruitcake. They all agreed that the next 24 hours was going to be pretty eventful, in more ways than one!

Secrets, family secrets... Willow was wondering about the change to the will.
Why would Aunt Millicent change her will and who will benefit the most from this change?

She made up her mind to call the family's lawyers...

Secrets... her mind went back to the time she was only 14 years old and heavily pregnant, Aunt Millicent had arranged the adoption and no one in the family knew to whom.

Her thoughts and memories were suddenly interrupted by the return of the detectives....

Willow stood up, took a deep breath and approached the detectives. She could see uncle Jasper standing behind them. "Excuse me," she said, "I'm feeling unwell at the moment. Would it be possible for me to rest in my room for a while? I would be happy to speak with you later."

The detectives looked at each other. Detective Savage then asked Willow if she needed any medical attention. Willow said, “No, I think I may have eaten something that doesn’t agree with me. I need to lie down for a while.” "Of course," said Detective Savage. "We can speak with you later when you're feeling better." "Thank you,” said Willow.

He then said, “In the meantime I request you & the family don’t leave this B&B until we have done our initial interviews with everyone here.” Detective Savage then turned & quietly looked at detective Crushing.

Then suddenly a team of forensic investigators arrived at the B&B. Willow quickly turned & made her way up to her room, feeling relieved that she had managed to get away for the time being. Once inside, she collapsed onto the bed and let out a sigh. Her mind was filled with thoughts of David and the events of the past few hours. For now someone down stairs would have to tell the detectives about David.

Willow's priority was to call the family's lawyers from her room. The family's lawyers knew more about the family than many of the family members knew. It was time to clarify some details with them, both past & present…

The necklace was a curse, it's history went back 200 years, if one followed the family history closely.
Of course much was hidden, (likely still in the chest in the attic of the old farm house, sold and bought
by Uncle Jasper) he wrote once about not wanting to see what was inside the old chest, "it would disturb
me too much" he'd said. Better left alone was his feelings about it all, don't mess around with it, and don't
ever open it! Uncle was an astute man of deep thoughts, to himself but cautious, his older years with memory
fails. But the truth was soon to be shared...

Willow admired Uncle Jasper and did not want him bothered with the non spoken or revealed truths that
stayed properly hidden in the Secret Chest in the Attic. Aunt Millicent was a a tad rude always to Jasper,
picked on him like a sore, he had not deserved that... it's admirable he'd tried to even revive Millicent,
but that is who he was, did not hold grudges although no one would have faulted him if he had...the
detectives dug deeper and deeper with questions, and as Jasper became more withdrawn and quiet,
now not uttering much of anything..

"the necklace, don't touch the necklace" were his last words to the detectives.

The letter said "you are a crazy bunch, the lot of you have stolen from me over the years and I have not
forgotten it" Jasper you and your twin brother can rot, one of you will not live, the other will go on for
years, as for you Willow and your child, she is just like you, a cheat and sleep around, you will inherit
nothing! The only thing you will inherit in the recipe to my famous fruitcake, eat it and choke! The rest
of you get nothing, not a damn thing!

The forensic investigators, looking for more details, what a mess and now Jasper had started bleeding
from his head, "don't touch the blood", as it drizzled onto a slice of Fruitcake!

Willows daughter was the only one to inherit anything from Aunt Millicent, as clearly stated in the will.
She though was not to be found, or where she lived or with whom........why was that though. Millicent
did not wish her well, but being in the will left everyone in shock mostly...

Detective Crushing, that man won't leave well enough alone!

Family lawyers being rung~

Meanwhile family members were feeling frightened and disgusted, wanting to leave the B & B..

to be continued...

I'm not sure what's happening with this thread. It seems like it might have stalled, but I also see that the previous post ended with the phrase 'to be continued...' Could it be that LadyEmeraude was indicating that she plans to continue from that exact point later on, or is that not the case?" Has everyone interpreted that in the same way?
