Too much healthy food in stores!!

Kale is not "food" in my house... yep, just for decoration, so I don't buy it. Now... let's talk about steak with chocolate sauce... I'll eat any food covered in chocolate. (As witnessed in another thread here a few weeks ago... I said that, and @Myrtle & @Bella tried to get me to eat chocolate covered dill pickles. :ROFLMAO:
Kale chips are good and easy to make. I just made some. You have to eat them fresh though while they're crisp.
My husband grows kale. It's pretty good sautéed with a lot of garlic too.

"Too much healthy food in stores!!"

Oh dear, we eat fresh everything, about the only processed food is the blotting paper that is passed off as gluten free bread. My wife is wheat intolerant so we have gluten free blotting paper.
Everyday I manage to eat an apple, pear, banana, satsuma, plum and a handfull of grapes. Our desserts are fresh berries like strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and currents. We do indulge in a splodge of cream but no sugar is sprinkled over the fruit.
It's been a way of life, I don't even know what a burger tastes like, don't really care either, each to their own.
By the way, this evening's meal is rainbow trout with toasted almonds, served on a bed of wild rice with a side of sweetcorn.
Your food sounds delicious. Sadly, I think current times dictate such largesse is becoming increasingly unaffordable for many.🙂

My doctor off handedly mentioned how foolish people were cramming in so much kale every day. I forgot what she said were the acutal problems, but look up "too much kale" and you'll get lots of articles.
Not sure if it's the same as spinach, but I know excessive amounts of spinach can cause problems because of the oxalates... was it kidney... or bladder? Yes, looked it up: The Harvard cohorts found that men and older women who ate spinach eight or more times a month had about a 30% higher risk of developing kidney stones.

The newest hype is adding flour from insects to various kinds of food. The EU has allowed this up to five per cent.
"A new EU regulation now states that, in addition to mealworms and grasshoppers, a certain percentage of crickets may also be added to a large number of foods throughout the EU from January 24, 2023".
Ewwww

@RadishRose, you reminded me when you mentioned mole sauces about an appetizer I just had on Valentines Day.

I've had mole before & didn't care for them so I wasn't keen on trying it again, BUT ... the appetizer was marinated roasted pork belly slices topped with pickled red onions & micro greens w/mole on the side. The mole sauce wasn't too spicy or chocolatey, a good balance of flavors that complimented the pork. I'm making myself hungry thinking about it.

Mexican cuisine uses chocolate in savory dishes. I make a chili that includes an amount of semi-sweet chocolate. Don't forget mole sauces. Chocolate is great with chiles.
We used to grate dark chocolate into chilli con carne, but I prefer it without. Most recipes call for a can of kidney beans and a can of tomatoes, it might be a tad tedious, but I score the skin of tomatoes and leave them in hot water for a few minutes. The peel comes off very easily. I don't use canned kidney beans either, I buy them in their pods. When we cook roast beef we retain the stock residue and use it in chilli con carne, rather than use a stock cube, it keeps the salt content down, and, I think it improves the flavour.

Sounds delicious.

Am I wrong to not care if I have a few ground crickets? They're good for you. As long as I know, and they don't sneak them in.
😉
I eat lobster which is a big delicious bug.
Ground crickets, if you read the contents on cans and ready meals you will quite often see a content called: "cicadae." It's the Latin word for cricket. If nothing else, it's a dubious tactic to name the content in Latin.

But WHY?
Is it to increase profits by using bugs and crap instead of food?

I mean it. I am sick of seeing frozen cauliflower and brocolli stuff nowadays.
It ruins the dinner for me. And mushrooms galore. leave the nuts out. And skinless chicken, bah!
Skin tastes good.
I am against healthy packaged and frozen foods, regardless of their nutrition.
but am very cautious with calories, carbos and salt though.
Whom agrees? I hate when idiots start analyzing every ingredient in foods.
Quite right, just eat fresh food cooked simply. I like traditional British cooking.
I don't have ready meals or takeaways. Give me bangers and mash, gammon and eggs or a nice cottage pie or stew and lovely homemade puddings like a crumble or sponge.
I don't bother about calorie counting or fat contents. Just eat good food you like in moderation.

I could never eat insects and I can't face seafood. Except I do like some fish like cod and salmon.
