I don't understand? Why do young women love bad guys?

I think you are spot on, mate! Thanks to all of you for your great input! Written by one who always ended up having the girls cry on his shoulder after they had been left for another by their "bad" boy! Thank God they come to their senses as they mature! :)
Um, can I just reiterate that this is not a phenomenon exclusive to women.

They were usually the cutest guys around. Played hard to get. Every girl liked them. And, I had to have them! :)
Some rode Harleys, one owned a bar, and they always looked good in their Levis.

eta: my mother worked in the legal field, and she so always wanted me to date someone in a 3 piece suit.....
Your mother was right! :ROFLMAO:

Well.... I respect your words here, but the wrong partner is the wrong partner. And for some people, the wrong partner is the buttoned-up, straight-laced, quiet, good guy. It's a matter of what's "wrong" for a given individual. IMHO :)
Hey, I hadn't read this reply: I wasn't buttoned up or straight laced but I do plead guilty to the last two! :)

It goes back to caveman days. Grogette wanted a man who could protect her and the munchkins from other Neanderthals and man eaters, a real tough guy. She wanted a hunter, a Grog good with his hands and a club and strong enough to carry heavy things. A Grog who would check a dark cave for saber toothed lions and tigers and bears, oh my.

Way back when, I was dating the handsome, stable, quiet type guy that everyone in my family liked. I then met a scruffy, black leather bad boy type and dumped Mr. Perfect to go on to a 2 year relationship with Mr. Bad Boy. I think it was to experience the freedom of being a rebel after being raised in a boring humdrum suburban atmosphere and always being what people expected me to be.

It was exciting and different, and even though it didn't last I never regretted my brief detour from the norm to explore my "wild" side.

I think there is a biological reason. To be successful in evolution women want to have a child who is more likely to reproduce. That makes choosing a father important.

Men who mate with more women have more children, so choosing a man who has many partners makes some sense. And sometimes we call these men bad guys, sometimes they are and sometimes not.

Other factors come in, of course, sometimes these bad guys are not good at supporting a family. And that can work against them biologically. There is also biological reason to choose a mate who will be a good provider, less likely a bad guy. And we have the intellectual ability to over come some of our instinctual desires, but not always easily.

Of course not, I can speak from some (long past) personal experience, LOL.

Yep, Slightly rebel, slightly intimidating, rugged spirit, not fully tamed and won't be.
Stands up for himself, bold and unafraid, confident, won't take crap from anyone.
yep.

Okay, the key word would be "rebel" against the expectations of your family. THAT I understand! I tried to join the French Foreign Legion when I was eighteen! I looked too young for their taste and they sent me home. I had to do some explaining to relatives and boss where I had been for three days!

Oh....why thank you. :) Oh wait..... you did mean me..... right?
Spent my whole life against the wind. I guess the wife has tamed me some. (well, maybe just a pinch).

I still have an edge after 32 years with the same gal. Yup...I will still take a chance and drink out of the milk carton while Hon is on the same floor! ;)
