had to go shopping this morning, top up beer and food,,,,,,,
i hate supermarkets,,today, old farts stopping and having a chunter, blocking the shelves off, kids screaming and hurtling around with the trollys,,stackers blocking the aisles, idiots in the car park cant park grrrr,
anyone else hate this chore

I've forgotten grocery items on the bottom rung of my cart while going through the cash. The cashier didn't notice, but I came back to the Supermarket when I got to my car and realized the mistake.

But it got my thinking...

A Grocery Store would be the perfect place to off somebody. You just place the body on the bottom rung of your cart...then whistle a merry tune while going through the cash.

And even if another shopper did notice, I doubt they would yell out, "Hey! You forgot to ring in the dead guy!!"

To be truthful, I actually enjoy it. I can use delivery if I want but I like to choose my own produce and meats. Little kids at the store make me smile. They are too cute, putting something in the cart when the parents aren't watching. Dancing around asking for special treats. Kids are more likely to eat fruit and veggies is they help choose them.

When the pandemic started, I was forced to do curbside pickup because they were only letting a low number of people into the store at a time. When that policy ended, I realized that having someone bring my order to the car *and* pack it into the trunk for me was something I wanted to continue instead of fighting the things you mentioned. Now when I go into the store for anything, it's for fun shopping, but grocery shopping is left to someone else! :giggle:

I don't mind it if I've planned and have a list. I like to pick out my own produce.
I go early morning when I can. Most kids are in school.
I just remembered how I used to carry stickers so when I came upon a screaming kid with it's mortified mother I would just ask if they could have a sticker. I'd just quietly put it on the cart handle where they're sitting and say don't cry or you'll make mickey (mouse) cry. It always shut them up.
Need to put stickers on my list. 😊

Look at the bright side. This obviously gets your heart rate up which is good. Then you get to relax at home with a cold beer that you bought.

I used to love it. Not so much anymore. I love to cook and bake so grocery shopping was one way to find new ingredients and inspiration. But I have transitioned from a big box grocery to Aldis. Not only for the good prices but for the small store. I did drive up during the Pan. But I like to select my meat and produce. So I'm back to shopping myself.

yep for all the reasons you state above. I cannot hate a chore more than I do supermarket shopping. I try to go only once a month but even then my heart drops to my toes at the thought of it...

we no longer have bottom shelves on our supermarket trolleys as we once did...

I have to say I prefer going to Costco, because unless I go on a Saturday there just isn't the same volume of screaming unruly chicldren as there is in the regular supermarkets.. I swear I'm never through the door of a supermarket before some entitled child lets off ear piercing screaming and keeps it up along with the screaming kiddie chorus...:oops:

This never happened when my daughter was little. She never onced cried or screamed in a supermarket or public place... and aside from tiny babies who can't help it... I have no recollection of other toddlers screaming either.. but today... it's a nightmare.. too many blue sweets..

It seems we have officially gotten old when going to the grocery store becomes the big event of the day.
This confirms my age! It’s something to do. I also know when to best go for individual stores to avoid the crowds. What bothers me are the social gatherings in the middle of the aisle. Or folks shopping together and blocking the route; this is one of the reasons I rarely let my husband accompany me.

If there’s a busy aisle or something that bothers me, I just move on to the next one and swing back afterwards.

I know exactly what you mean. I've been shopping with my daughter and once in a while she'll say "was I ever like that?!" when a kid is screaming or throwing a hissy. I always tell her no, she wasn't... and I'm pretty sure I'd remember if other kids were. She was born in '84. Things have changed on so many levels since the 80s and 90s.

‘Yes, I hate to grocery shop too, but sometimes we have to bite the bullet and do it.

I use Instacart to shop and delivery groceries a few times during the month. But.......I do not really like it. I am particular about my groceries and look at every single berry in a package of berries before putting it in my cart. Study the meat packages before choosing which one I want. The spring mix for my bunny has to have as little spinach as possible as he will not eat it and it is not good for him. I guess I enjoy my shopping experience..........unless there are children crying and making noise.

that's all good in theory but they always send short dated stuff...
That's a shame. My wife and I who are closing in on 90, call our orders in, select a pick-up time (usually the following day), drive to the store, pop the trunk and they trolley out the groceries and deposit them in the trunk. Payment is pre-arranged and no money or credit card is necessary. No need to even get out of the car.

We've been doing this for the past couple of years and have not been troubled with "short dated items". It's a blessing considering our limited ability to walk about.

I'm glad it's not like that here... we've been doing curbside for three years now and they have always done a super job... fresh produce I would have chosen myself and really good substitutions when something is out of stock.
