I would not hold it against anyone who does. The blame would lie with those offering, not those taking advantage of the offer...I'm telling you not EVERY black person in America would take the money.

To quote my friend Donzelle, "My great-great-grandfather was a slave. I've never been a slave to no one. He suffered, for sure. I never had to. I can go where I want, live where I want, go to any college I want, I have the job I want. I live in a great country, thanks to my great-great-grandfather being brought here. I'm doing that man proud, and the state can shove that money up their a$$e$."I would not hold it against anyone who does. My wife said pretty much the same thing, btw, and so do my in-laws.To quote my friend Donzelle, "My great-great-grandfather was a slave. I've never been a slave to no one. He suffered, for sure. Good for Donzelle!!To quote my friend Donzelle
Not entirely pointless. That hot air could get a lot of votes from virtue-signalers and the poor and unemployed. There's a lot of both here in California. As CA is facing a deficit, rather than a surplus as expected, there is NO MONEY to fund ANY reparations anyway, so everybody's "reparation amounts" are increasingly moot. Like most politics, it's a lot of hot air floating pointless balloons.
There are millions of Black Americans who won't. In fact, they will be quite offended by the ridiculous injustice and bigoted implications of this proposal if it becomes law.
Same reason so many Blacks protested bringing that Race Theory curriculum to schools.Agreed. There are many black American descendants of slaves who feel that reparations talk fosters a victim mentality.

The lack of money thing could easily be fixed by only awarding the reparations to Black Californians who had an ancestor enslaved in California. That would be zero. Politicians could still take credit for a great thing without having to pay anything for it...The task force is considering a proposal to give just under $360,000 per person to approximately 1.8 million Black Californians who had an ancestor enslaved in the U.S., putting the total cost of the program at about $640 billion.

No, but I'm sure a politician could make it sound like one... just takes the right spin.Makes sense but is this as an idea a great thing?
I worked with a Black man who was a favorite speaker at shareholder meetings and a great guy. When we got out of the stock transfer business, he was laid off with a fat bonus - X weeks pay for every year of service. Last day was a Friday. He went to work the following Monday with a rival bank, and as I recall, a $10,000 signing bonus. BTW, I was told by another friend of his that his family were members of a party whose name begins with R.Agreed. Ok, 99.9 %Not when race is attached to the offer. I lived in a very predominantly black community until just recently, and have African ancestry. You don't know what you're talking about. That said, if $5-mil was offered to any race for some perceived injustice, of course there'd be takers; there are unprincipled people among all races.
I'm telling you not EVERY black person in America would take the money.
You're obtuse.Ok, 99.9 %
And you don't understand human natureYou're obtuse.
Tell me what it is, gary. Explain the human nature of Blacks to me.And you don't understand human nature
Another interesting fact about slavery few people are aware of; slave traders did not go into the interior of Africa to "catch" slaves. Various powerful African tribal chiefs sent their warriors out to capture men and women from weak, vulnerable tribes, and sold them at specific ports on the west coast or in the east to buyers from middle-eastern and Mediterranean countries. Here is something you may not be aware of regarding reparations of slavery:
Slavery existed for 250 years in the United States.
For 180 years, (from Jamestown in 1607 to our Constitution in 1789)
America was part of Great Britain. This was 72% of those years.
For the remaining 70 years, (1789 to 1863, the emancipation proclamation)
we were self-ruled; representing 28% of the years.
Slavery was outlawed in 1808 in New England and New York.
So, We should send the British Parliament a bill for 72% of all reparation costs.
And perhaps we should subtract the free welfare money since 1965?
It's called HUMAN nature jack--- who said anything about strictly black people?Tell me what it is, gary. Explain the human nature of Blacks to me.
You did, in your first comment. It's called HUMAN nature jack--- who said anything about strictly black people?
