I have just finished re reading some of his works and although born an Englishman he was a true American Hero and his thoughts re: religion are most interesting.

I'm with you about Thomas Paine. A clearheaded thinker who contributed as much as any of the founders. Now that American History is being rewritten, we need a lot of History buffs that will maintain truth of the past.
 

To get a response from people who are unfamiliar with Thomas Paine you really need to point us in the direction of some reading material, or at least highlight something that you have been reading.
 
It's good to hear from someone who has read Aldous Huxley. My favorite is After Many a Summer Dies the Swan in which he describes Forest Lawn Cemetery, a beautiful park that is not a 'Garden on Stone' but a very pleasant place where a lot of Hollywood stars are interred.
 
I have read much of Pain's writings, well, some of it. I have read the Age of Reason and some of his writing on America. At one time during my younger years, his writings were the center pieces of my small library. At the time I started reading Paine, his voice was, I thought, the clearest, most profound I had been introduced to. In my later years i had forgotten him. Makes me wonder what common sense is about and what he would think of these United States today.
