What sort of handbag or purse do you use?

My sweet husband jokes that my handbag is my security blanket! šŸ˜‚ It’s currently a Coach shoulder tote because my son and DIL gave it to me for Christmas. I take it everywhere!

But see that’s because of the work I do. My handbag and my vehicle together comprise my mobile office. I have everything I could need at work or recreation, from a first aid kit to tools to an extra tote bag to safety pins to packing tape to … well, a lot! šŸ˜‚

I have a system. When I’m running errands, I have a small hobo type cross body bag that I sling over my tires in which I carry my phone, credit card wallet, small purse with cash, chapstick, and tissues. I clip my keys to the strap. It’s makes me hands-free.

But my purse is in my car still, close by, with the array of stuff I might need, (nail clippers, multi tool, band aids, tweezers etc) as is my tote with all my work stuff (tools, post it notes, labels etc)

BE PREPARED!! That’s my motto šŸ˜‚

I don’t carry a regular purse around. I’ve got a tiny little thing , that is only big enough for a phone, a credit card and my drivers licence. It’s only used if I go out someplace important which isn’t often. I dislike huge fancy handbags. Its just not me.

I usually carry a large bag unless I'm going to some place like a restaurant. If I'm out shopping, I take the bag with me but leave it in my trunk and just carry cash, credit card and keys in my pockets into the store.

Shoulder purse, smaller now, when I was working I carried more stuff. Now I do not carry a make up bag. I still have my small zippered bag with medicine, band aids, etc. I don't carry a hair brush only a hair band to put it up if it gets too hot. Please note, this can change if I am going to be away from home for the day but that is a rare event.

Travelon Anti-theft crossbody bag. I used to just use these, I have 3 styles, for travel. Now it’s for everyday. When I quit carrying cash, which meant no more large wallet for our Canadian coins, I got away with a much smaller bag. I have a collection of very nice purses that are stored on an upper shelf. No matter how nice a leather purse is, by the time I add a few things, it’s heavy. Admittedly, I do love purses.

I no longer own leather bags. I also find them to be too heavy on my shoulder plus the summer rains ruins them!
I opted for "Pacsafe" bags (anti theft bags) or for "Kavu" bags. Both brands can be purchased at Amazon and offer a variety of options from shoulder bags to fanny packs, or backpacks, or crossbody bags.
I will have a look at "Baggalini" as well as "Travelon" brands mentioned above. It appears to be very similar to "Pacsafe".

I do not have leather bags. I have never spent money of silly amounts for a purse. I have seen many a fine expensive bag but it never had any draw for me. If I am going to spend money it would be on a nice pair of leather shoes that would last for years. These days they would be flats or a nice pair of boots.

I guess I am lucky at this point. I no longer worry about so called fashion, I tend to purchase things of a classic style not things that need to be replaced after a short period. I have never seen handbags as an investment piece. I wait for end of season sales for these purchases. I have many that can be used for years. It might sound silly but the first place I shop is in my own closet for things I have purchased for next to nothing for special occasions.

Many people I know have these possessions, but they are far in debt, their homes are not mortgage free. They drive cars that payments are as compared to renting an apartment. I just don't think that is a wise choice at my age. I like fine things but I am willing to wait, to shop and compare before I buy. Self restraint is a gift not a curse. I have seen to many people blow through the money they set aside for retirement on silly things.

I really like the Kavu sling bags/backpacks but I have trouble with not being able to switch it from one side to the other. It’s design prohibits that choice.

Me? None, but I do carry a satchel from time to time. I also get stuck holding my wife’s purse or pocketbook while she tries on clothes. I used to be embarrassed by that, but not anymore. One thing I won’t do is go through my wife’s pocketbook. I asked if she had any gum a few weeks ago. She told me to look into her pocketbook. I told her, I changed my mind. I don’t want any gum.

Oh, the men that think there is a rattle snake in there should they dare the to enter the sacred place. Truth is we ladies have a stash of tissues, rolaids, band aides, pain relievers. I got a lot of giggles at the contents of my purse but they always stopped laughing when they needed somethiing.
