Cable Outage

I was placed on a med that caused internal bleeding. I passed out, and woke up on the floor. I could not move my left arm, and my right arm was underneath me and I was too weak to get off the floor. I must have laid on the floors for hours till I was able to get my flip phone out, and called 911. If it wasn't for that phone I would not be here today.

this is the numero uno reason that those of us who live alone would be nuts not to have a mobile phone at hand... . I used to leave my mobile untouched in one room or in my bag before my husband left, thinking that I was safe enough with 2 of us here and he is attached to his phone .. but since he's been gone, and I;m on my own.. despite having a landline.. with a phone in each room ( aside from bathrooms and kitchen).. whenever I move from room to room I stick my phone in my pocket. .. and especially so if I;m going out in the garden

I also cannot endorse enough the medical call button. Holly, not sure what they are called in UK. Mine is from a place called Response Now. I keep the button near me, and can press it if in trouble. An operator will check in and ask if I need help. I fell a few weeks ago, hit the button and got paramedics called for me. Plus, they called my niece to let her know I had activiated it Home Page | ResponseNow.com

When we experience a power outage, I can still call our provider on my cell phone, report the outage and receive a message as to when they expect power to be restored. They will also text me. IMO a cell phone is an absolute necessity during a power outage.

How convenient are they when you have no service? The fact her 'net is on cable makes it also likely that, like me, she has NO wireless service at all. I can't even get cable, just satellite.
Deb has never even suggested that she doesn’t have the availability of cell service.

And the places she’s lived definitely would have it.

It took a long while for me to get used to using a cell phone and carry one around with me however my husband badgered me to.
At first I hated it. The ideal that I had to be accessible at all times to my husband initially drove me nuts but his constant nagging and worrying were even worse. After a while I started and now can’t imagine going anywhere without it.

It’s definitely a safety precaution. I can get in touch with my husband if something happens. Believe it or not, 3 weeks ago I left in the car without my keys. My husband had started the car for me and I’d forgotten to grab my keys. Thank goodness I had my keys to call him. I was about 12 miles away with the dogs . Luckily I have an electric bike which he drove to get me and within 1/2 an hour , he was there. We put the bike in the back and drove home.
Without that phone I would have been ……
He LOVED the bike ride and didn’t stop smiling for the rest of the day.

I'm not surprised. I once was crusing around and stopped to check my phone. I'm 35-40 miles from I-5 freeway, near Mt. Rainer. No service at all.

I was surprised at that, but it was the "Dead Zone" for coverage. The average cell distance is max at 22-25 miles.

Another poster questioned if there was cell service where Deb lives.

There is, with several options to choose from.

When we switched from cable to cell phones T-Mobile worked with the cable company at no cost to us to use the same number that we had with the land line. T-Mobile supplied us with a free modem to stream T V. With T-mobile a fixed rate of $30.00 for life for T V streaming, basic Netflix for free paid by T-mobile, two cell phones with unlimited texting,Unlimited nationwide calls & low senior rate. What's not to like about getting all that & having the convenience of a cell phone? On top of that saving over $100.00 a month by ditching cable.

Who knows maybe Deb will at least look into the concept of having a cell phone for emergencies.

Bingo! Many who fall down cannot call on a cell phone, but most of the time they can push that button.

((And the places she’s lived definitely would have it.)))

Don't know about that either, since I live a mile from a Verizon tower and can't get service. There really are LOTS more holes in the coverage than you seem to think. As for Deb, don't know why she still tells you anything the way you people jump on her for not doing it YOUR way.
