Do You Eat Rice?

I used to tolerate rice. Basmati was nice.

Over the years I developed an active dislike for it. When I lived in Asia, I avoided rice. Of course, this surprised many people.

Now, even the smell of rice cooking grosses me out. If you think rice doesn't have a smell, you're wrong.

I add wild rice to mine as well as the regular.
I fry ziti pasta, pine nuts and garlic in a little oil until it all starts to turn brown and then I add the cooked rice and some herbs and salt 'n pepper, stir it all up, and set it on low for a while. Then I top that with chicken that's been boiled, boned, and then baked in a covered dish or foil-wraps for about a half-hour or so.

So yummy!

I only mostly eat rice pilaf....

Occasionally cooked white rice, with warm or hot milk over it
and some white sugar. For me like a dessert, when I was a young
child, my mom made this for us kids as a treat...
My grandma made rice pudding for us a lot when I was little. Sometimes she put raisins in it and sprinkled cinnamon on top.

Nobody makes it like grandma did.

Mostly brown rice a few times a week to replace potatoes. But I prefer quinoa to rice.

Nice simmered in a chicken broth with mushroom and sweet peppers and whatever slivers of meat come out of the freezer, makes a nice quick lunch or side dish.

I can't cook rice from scratch to save my life. It either turns out little crunchy pieces or a gelatinous mass. I've gone to buying the 'microwave in a bag' kind. I like the basmati and use it in a quick dish of Brussels sprouts, rice and deli chicken (or turkey) all mixed together.

1 minute 30 seconds in my 1000 watt Microwave.. then tip it into a hot frying pan with a little oil .. keeping it moving all the time.. add a little light soy sauce, and pour in 2 beaten eggs and stir very fast with a spatula or wooden spoon. Voila...Instance Egg fried rice...

In Greek, we call this "risogalo" and it was a staple growing up. My mom also made the best rice pudding (slow cooking and lots of cinnamon after). I have tried to make it in the past, but it didn't turn out as thick as hers. Now, I don't eat any because I'm on a low carb diet. Brings back memories....

Rice food poisoning from bacterial spores is a real thing. Make sure you're storing your leftover rice properly, or you could get seriously sick.

the danger doesn't come from reheating your rice but comes from improperly storing rice before it goes in the fridge. Read on for the details to avoid any chance of leftover rice food poisoning in the future.
