Florida couple shot at while delivering groceries.

What can you say that you haven't said hundreds of times before. If you flood the nation with guns, so any jackass can have them, are you really surprised that jackasses will use them?
My honorary son, who lives in Tampa, reminded me that their governor signed into law a bill that allows people to carry concealed weapons without a permit.
@Jules Re @Rossana's post that said minority groups are advising their people not to move to Florida, you said "This will thrill the racists. "They’ll have achieved part of what they wanted. Very sad." Yes, and it's also pitiful that so many people don't even realize what is happening!.
And when they are told, they don't believe it.

I hope I don't get shot turning around in a drive!! I only pull about a foot or less into one to turn around but rarely ever do it. I'm ready to find another planet to live on!! I should hope no extremists follow me there!!

They had just pulled into the driveway while trying to find a customer's address and the home owner began shooting at them while they were trying to explain. The police aren't charging the shooter because they were on his property.

On the other hand, within this news article is a link to another one about squatters in Florida, who can move into your property and do thousands of dollars worth of damage, and the police can't help you.

Florida. Go figure.
News reports state the County Prosecutor is conducting an investigation, due to the fact their office was not even consulted for a legal opinion. The homeowner will be charged, count on it.

I'll say something is very wrong. When did it become lawful to shoot someone just for being on your property?

I was taught that it was legal to enter someone's property to knock on the door but not legal to attempt entry to the back yard or loiter on the property. However, the owner's right was to have the person charged with trespass, not to try to kill them.
It is not legal at its inception. The owner or whoever is in apparent authority is responsible to ascertain the legality of the business of any implied invitee. What if it was a plain clothes Policeman? Let the owner try to assert any Castle is my home defense then if he shoots or kills the cop??

I once worked as a census collector and had to knock on every door in my allocated district to deliver the forms. I also had to return and collect the forms once they were completed. Sometimes the resident was not at home and I would leave a note asking them to leave the paperwork in the electricity meter box. Then, when I returned that way again I would go to the meter box looking for them.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that I might have a loaded gun pointed at me.

Even today, people come onto my property to read the electricity, gas or water meters. I have no right to stop them let alone kill them. Why would I?

This reminds me. As part of my job, I had to locate contacts of people infected with STDs. Most of the time this involved going to their homes or apartments and ringing their bells. Never would I have thought someone would try to shoot me either but times sure have changed. One of the first thing I learned about making home visits is never stand directly in front of the door. I often wonder why on procedurals the cops don't take that same safety precaution.
