What was The Earliest car That you remember Your Family Owning When You Were Growing Up !!!

The first family car that I can remember was a 1956 two-tone green Ford Fairlane. They never had another two-tone vehicle after that, but always bought Fords. It had a spacious back seat for me, but of course no seat belts back then, no air conditioning, etc.

Out of interest, being interested in cars but not wishing to run off-topic on Charry's thread. What do folk in the USA consider are the ultimate American Classics?

Nice picture of a Standard Vanguard Charry. My picture was fairly recent and was taken by the tower at Beachy Head, did you forget where you parked it? ;):D Best move it as the way the cliffs are eroding it will be in the sea soon.
what cliffs ?

The first family car I can remember, and for some reason I remember it well, was already a well worn late1930s vintage plymouth, the kind with the headlights perched atop the front fenders. It may have already been 10 years old with paint that had forever lost what shine it ever had, and it is one of the clearest memories during the time I was becoming conscious of my environment. I would have been two or three years old. I would guess that would have been in 1946 when I was old enough to know what it was. I remember looking at the pavement moving by underneath where open holes around the brake and clutch pedals came through the floor. I thought that was normal. It probably was. I think we had it for a long time. The next car I remember was a brand new 1953 Chevy.

This 1938 model was probably one in similar condition, but ours was green, and didn't have the fancy wheels. The paint was in better condidion, but it had this same quality of dullness.

yes i know the area avon, but i thought , you were saying that the vanguard was going over a cliff LOL

Lots of films filmed up this way !!
Yes, love it in the Summer or did. Top-down on the car, lunch at the then "Golden Galleon" by the river. Then walk down the river which runs a cool turquoise and the Mullet splash in the river, while the Skylarks sing above, until a person gets to the Coast Guard cottages. A real shame they are going to let it all flood to save £100K.

if you walk up to the Barn, then walk down The Lane...That is where i used to live,
so it was only a 5 min walk for me !!

The first car I remember my parents owning was a 1956 Ford station wagon. They called it tan, but it was more of a funny pink color. It lasted so long that they gave it to my sister when she turned 18.

My grandparents had friends who drove a Hudson. When I was a kid I used to beg to go sit in their car when they visited. Something about the smell of the wool interior that I must have liked.

That Hudson looks like a '49' same as my dads Maroon one, back in the day . I used to sleep on the package shelf ! Try that today.

I used to curl up in one of the back seat foot wells that were separated by the drive shaft, or whatever else ran down the middle to the back end.

The first car I can remember in the family was a Singer Vogue. As a kid i used to sit on my dad’s lap and steer as he was driving. As a kid I was always impressed by how much the lights lit up the countryside.

Then later my dad had a used one of these. He called it his gangster car. I couldnt steer this as a child, the steering was to heavy for me.
