What Are Your Kitten/Cat's Favorite Food and Toy?

Our kitten for the most part is a good eater and only gets finicky once in awhile. And although at first she seemed to prefer poultry I think this is her favorite.

Her newest and now favorite toy(s) are these crinkle balls. She seems obsessed with them and cries for them when she loses one. She also tries her best to dig them out from under [whatever]. Unfortunately she's lost each one under stuff and in places we can't find them or easily reach. Otherwise she would chase and carry these around in her mouth for hours. I have about 6 left and just ordered her a pack of 20 that are slightly bigger than the ones she has now, but will probably still fit under the furniture. I will not give her one every day.

Our 17 year old cat is a very finicky eater and prefers whiskas Perfect Portions
PATE! For treats she likes Delectables Squeeze Ups.

Her favourite toys used to be small sponge balls. Before the dogs got out of bed in the morning, I’d throw one of these sponge balls down the hallway, and she’d retrieve it and bring it back.

Now she doesn’t like that game any more. Instead she loves these little mice with squeakies in them. I tie them onto a string and pull them around the room while she chases them.

šŸˆā€ Pixel has an appointment with his vet on Wed because, about a week ago, he started seriously, violently choking every time he ate. He can manage canned food ok now, as long as it's pate`, but even then I have to squish it through a strainer, pick out any little chunks and hard bits, and then add plenty of water. He's choked so many times he's learned to be cautious and only laps up a little at a time, so I give him just a few tablespoons of this "cat-soup" several times a day.

It looks horrible when he chokes. He throws himself around and then writhes on the floor coughing and gagging, food spewing out of his mouth....it looks like a seizure. I think maybe there's something stuck deep in his throat preventing him from swallowing anything larger than the head of a freaking pin, but we'll find out for sure in a couple days. Hope it's nothing serious.

He's got a basket full of toys that he doesn't play with unless you attach it to a string and dangle it in front of him or drag it along the floor. I guess he likes the interaction.

Oh how sweet; the mice are cute. Our Deja loves the Beefeater Lickables (chicken flavor). I also bought Caru brand on Amazon. She loves that kind too. Amazon had them in packs of 3 for $7.98, which is insane. They used to be $5.98. My son bought the 3 flavors variety packs from Dollar Tree for $1.25. I told him to get as many packs as he could. Family Dollar also has them for that price. She started refusing to eat pate about 4 months ago.

@Murrmurr I'm surprised you had to wait so long for an appointment under the circumstances. Pixel is a cute name. I hope the vet can get to the bottom of it and he'll be alright!. If I saw our kitten going through that I'd probably be freaking out!

Dollar Stores are great aren’t they?
Three for $1.25 is great.
Our cat really likes them a lot.
She eats a lot but is so skinny.

You know, our cat went off her favourite salmon pate and we waited and purchased another batch of them and now she loves it again.

Sometimes you can get the beginning or ending of a product run and the flavour isn’t quite right due to production reasons.
Don’t give up hope just yet.

I love Dollar Tree although I think they should change their name to Buck & A Quarter. Thank you for the tip but we're good. She's eating better than me sometimes. :D I get Kirkland (Costco brand) cat food and the first ingredient listed is the meat, unlike some brands. That comes with 2 flavors, chicken & salmon. She also has Meow Mix variety, some of which seem a little mushier than pate but have chunks of meat in it. She loves the chicken and liver. She also has Friskies meaty bits and shreds....with fish, turkey and cheese, chicken and fish flavors.

Deja eats about 4 times a day. She is long and sleek...I wouldn't call her skinny. I wonder what she'll be like when she gets to be a year old. Does your cat get a lot of exercise?

Our two boys are both adults, so we feed them Science Diet Perfect Weight. Bugsy weighed in at 16.5 pounds during our last vet visit. She told us he could develop Diabetes. Now we are carefully restricting portions and don't just leave their bowls with food anymore. They like the Science Diet food. At night, we feed them a small can of Fancy Feast in some type of pate, and then right before bedtime a few Temptations treats for each. Ralph only needs to say "treats" after we finish TV and they both jump off our laps and head for the kitchen.

Their favorite toy, unequivocally, was delivered with Bugsy by his foster. He carries it up and down stairs and each time he puts it somewhere he yells loudly as if to bring attention to it. If I dangle it or throw it, he never goes after it but he just carries it in his mouth when he feels like it. It is cushy, so he sometimes sits and rests his front paws on it. It is hilarious. I've attached a picture. It has a little tail on the end. :ROFLMAO:

I hope your little girl is bringing you lots of happiness. I'm sure she's a bundle of energy!

YES!!! I LOVE Costco!
Isn’t Kirkland the best? We get a lot of Kirkland things so I’m ALL ears. I shall check out their food. Our dogs used to eat their kibble but we switched. We do get dog snacks from there. Thanks!

With our cat , her going off the salmon pate was a big deal! Its the only flavour she eats so for us, it was worrisome. Our pets are super spoiled so I get what you’re saying. At the time we didn’t know if we’d lose her during that period. Now we’ve found other foods she likes.

Our cat eats about 4 times a day.
She gets a lot of exercise. She goes up and down the stairs to our other floor and it’s quite the trip. She also goes outside to sunbathe and watch the birds and squirrels eating. She still likes to play a lot so we assume she must be doing good.

It’s so adorable how our pets have such unique personalities. Our cat loves temptations too. Cute Toy Story.

I have 2 cats, a male and a female. The male’s favorite toy is a track with a ball on it. The female likes those little stuffed mice. They eat prescription cat food because the male is a crystal former and he could develop stones or become blocked and be unable to urinate.

Is the toy with the ball remote working or manual? šŸ˜…

My cats are eating Science Diet sensitive stomach and skin dry right now. Split a can of fancy feast a day and then a fancy feast "snack" later to get Talia's prednisone medication in her. Juniper's is plain of course, Talia's has the 'special' ingredient.

I've made mouse toys from heavier fabric the cats like. My tabby loves these.

Thank you Doug. Yes, despite her devilishness sometimes, she's always doing things to make us laugh and love her even more.

@PeppermintPatty I think I'll have to go back to ordering Friskies Meaty Bits and I'm going to try Chewy's brand of cat food in gravy. They each have a better price (per ounce) than the Kirkland cat food. I stopped buying Friskies because other customers and I were receiving damaged shipments. I saw the complaints on Amazon and Chewy. I also decided I'm pretty much going to get her food from Chewy. Their prices are comparable to Amazon and I get to talk to a human pretty quickly whenever there's a problem.

After feeding all dry, we switched over to canned quite a while ago. Since they are adults, they get fed twice a day with no food left down. They also get a few kitty treats once in a while.

Our vet had been at a conference & the speaker talked about diabetes & the rise of it in cats. He asked three questions & the first was how many had patients with this problem. Almost all raised their hands. He then asked how many of those cats are on dry food. The same hands went up again. The last was how many of these cats were overweight & just about the same hands went up again.

The speaker said that dry foods can't contain all the protein that cats need & there is too many carbs for them causing weight gain. The first thing he did with his diabetic patients was to switch them to wet if they were on dry. These cats lost weight & in quite a few cases the disease was reversed.

Between the crystal in urine problem with our first cat & hearing about the rise in diabetes in cats from the seminar, our vet made us believers in feeding wet.

Our second cat wanted only one flavor, would refuse anything else & we indulged him. We now feed all flavors from the time they're kittens in rotation & no one has gotten picky.

Good luck with your little guy.

Pixel saw the vet yesterday. His gums are inflamed. I didn't notice that, but then, I didn't think to check. His gums on the left side are swollen and real red, so the vet thinks it hurts to eat. He said it might be an autoimmune disorder, did a blood test, and gave him 2 antibiotic injections, one in each shoulder. The blood test ruled out leukemia as the cause.

Vet said Pixel might have an ulcer in his throat, too, but the antibiotics will help with that.

We go back in 2 weeks. Meantime, he wants me to keep giving Pixel soupy canned food* but start introducing a little bit of it straight-from-the can in a few days; like, put down a bowl with a tablespoon or two of regular canned stuff next to his bowl of soupy stuff. When his mouth feels better, he'll eat the regular stuff. Then I can try kibble soaked in warm water, and so on.

*for over a month now, he'll only eat canned food "soup" - I stir in plenty of water, squish all the chunks with the back of a spoon, and then strain out any little hard bits.

I'm amazed at the amount of what looked like tiny bone shards in canned catfood. Except for salmon. The salmon flavored ones didn't have any bone shards, or whatever those were. Could have been bits of plastic for all I know. I also found lots of what appears to be tiny bits of fiber, like cotton or wool or something.

Yeah, I put it off for too long. :(

I just figured something was stuck in his throat and he'd eventually either swallow it or cough it up. Bad Murrmurr!

My last cat liked to eat with his paws. He'd pick up a piece of dry cat food with his paw pads, stare at it like it was the most wonderous thing he had ever seen and then eat it. He'd eat five or six pieces that way and then eat normally.

His favorite toy was a little plastic ring. I'd throw it and he'd run to pick it up and bring it back to drop in my hand. He'd do that for a while and then I'd throw the ring and he'd look at me like he was saying, "Lady, what the heck do you want me to do with that? You know cats don't play fetch." and walk off like he was disgusted.

I said earlier in another thread that he thought he was a dog. He was very un-catlike.

His other favorite game was "find the gerbil". My daughter's gerbils would get loose and disappear under the bed or in the closet or under the couch. The cat would go on the hunt, pick the gerbil up very gently and bring it to us. While he was a mighty mouse and squirrel hunter (evidenced by the "offerings" he'd leave on the front porch for us regularly), he seemed to know that the gerbils were part of the family and he never, never hurt them.

@Murrmurr Thank you for the update and I hope the treatment works.

You really just scared me with what you are finding in the food. It makes me wonder what we are feeding out cats. The vet I'm now going to even mentioned that she is suspicious what is in cat food.

You know those canned foods that say "Bits" or "Shreds" on the label? My cats never eat the bits and shreds parts, so it's obvious to me they're not made of meat.
