Is you glass half full or half empty?

Now don’t get me wrong, I understand the phrase, but as with most things in my life, I have to see them in context, but that’s just me. Some I know might say that my opinion is wrong as to whether I see something half full or half empty. But its just my opinion.

For example: If I’ve got a glass and a can of beer, the glass starts out as being empty. I fill the can half way and it then becomes half full. Because my goal is to fill it so I can drink it. Please bear with me; I’ll finish what I’m saying soon. :)

Then when I start to drink it, my goal is to empty it. Then when the beer is half way down the glass as a consequence of drinking it, in my mind at least, it’s now half empty. Because it is.

When the glass then becomes empty, that’s fine, because I have some more in the fridge! :)

Am I just weird?

Well, it's a metaphor for a person's general outlook on life which you're placing in literal circumstances and analyzing through that lens.
Is that weird? Eh, not in my world.

The question is what's your goal here, with this thread? Because if it's forcing metaphors into their reality suits, that might be interesting.

I don’t suppose there was a goal other than just seeing where other people take this thread, and then maybe discussing peoples different points of view based on their own outlook, their own experiences even. The way they see things personally. I must admit, I do sometimes struggle with metaphors.

@ Magna - Carta sometimes maybe we just like to show off our expansive knowledge of the at least English language? ps: and how to navigate forums effectively - everyone is bloody different!

Indeed we are, bloody different that is, and thank god for that. What would the world be like if we were all the same or very similar? Our different outlooks; experiences; the things that have shaped us; our memories that we hold close. All go towards making everyone different.

What technologies would we be lacking; medical advancements even. What institutions and organizations that shape our societies might not be in existence, if people think everyone should think and be the same. It takes all sorts with different ways of thinking to develop the whole.

How stagnant might our world and societies be if everyone wanted everyone else to be the same as them.

Update: sometimes it seems more and more that some want all others to be the same. ashould that be considered scary.

Well...it took me right to this poster I created in another life....

Thats ok, I have more in the fridge for us all. We can then all fill our glasses to what ever level we want, and discuss its atrbutes, whether it be Optimistic, Pessimistic, or Realistic.

I really do need to get out more. 😐... :)...

I guess it really doesn't make a difference to me whether a glass is half-full or half-empty to me. I thinks it up to someone either to leave their glass low or do something about it & fill it up. I'm a realist at heart & would say it is what it is.

That’s pretty much how I see it, metaphor or not. For that metaphor to mean something different to me at least, I can’t help thinking it’s the wrong metaphor.

Not sure whether I would need something more specific and more to the point at hand, or something more general.

Did you drink all the beer before writing this? You have an empty glass & fill the can half full?

I like seeing it completely empty, that way there is room for something completely new. A full glass may represent optimism, but it could also mean sated or satisfied. Now you see the meaning of my user name. The happiness of an empty vessel! I don’t want to be satisfied. I am looking for new viewpoints, new experiences. I think I twisted this metaphor around to my own purpose. Yes, I did. 😉

Nice user name! :D

Funny you should say that. Although I didn’t mention it originally, I was also thinking about the can as my glass was being filled to half way. The glass half full whilst the can was half empty. I saw both in a positive light. :)

My class being 440ml, the same as the can. Took me a while to find glasses at the store that had the same volume as the specific cans of beer I drink. I don’t like filling a glass up in instalments. Drinking some from the glass to make room to put the rest in.

Half full or empty? For me, it's a toss up. My glass is half full, but my brain is half empty.

I was going to give this a "Like"; a thumbs up. But then I thought it might come across as though I'm agreeing with the last part of your last sentence. Which I’m not, and wouldn’t do. So I’ll just laugh instead, if that’s ok? :) :D
