I hope you are having a wonderful Mother's Day HD.

Nope. Didn't work in the garden because it's too darned hot. I did water the flowers, though. I'll get up early tomorrow and really soak the entire garden because even though we're promised rain (threatened with?), it doesn't seem to happen.

I have to get it done early so DD and I can hit the garden centers. I got gift cards to both Lowe's and Home Depot as Mother's Day gifts. Yay! Here's hoping the plants that I want will be in stock. Still need Mexican petunias, guara and balloon flowers. The bone-chilling cold last winter did a number on almost all of them:(. So much for being perennials. Three guara and three balloon flowers survived, but the others left big gaps that need to be filled.

The bachelor buttons that were planted in pots from seed will be ready to planted in the garden in about a week, I think. The gomphrena that were planted from seed? Nothing. Zero. Zed. Zip. There were a few seeds left that I put in a pot, and they seem to be s l o w l y sprouting🤞Sigh. Patience isn't my long suit...

I took a picture of our Hummingbird babies that hatched just today. The mommy had built its nest under the carport in
front of our side entrance on a Christmas light we had forgotten to take down. We have to refill our Hummingbird feeder ever week. Next is a nest of a pretty bird (Oriole?) with two eggs under the carport that probably will hatch soon. And the last picture is an empty Sparrow nest where the fledgling had left just a few days ago. We also have other breeding nests, like every year that of a pair of Red Tailed Hawks in our tall Eucalyptus Trees. Last year a fledgling left the nest too early and fell to the ground. I called our Animal Control, and they nurtured the young hawk till it could fly away on its own.

@packleader, I have also had the misfortune of having young birds and squirrels out of the nest too early. I think our town is blessed that we can take any wild thing to them and they get them to a wildlife rescue. The most interesting was a baby owl. You don't realize how beautiful these creatures are until you get to see them up close.

I have found it a good idea if you know there is a nest nearby but on the neighbors property to make sure they know. They need to be aware so the animals are not disturbed during the birthing season. I have seen the loss of many an animal when their nest are distrubed and babies are lost due to shrub, tree trimming or removal.

Today, went to church and was handed a white carnation as I entered the church (by a young person) for Mother's Day. Ended up singing in the choir, which is located in the loft. Afterward, hung around in the grand hall for some coffee and fellowship. I had spoken at the Embassy recently and several people came up to me to talk about it.

After church, my son took me out to lunch at Nordstrom's, which was nice. He reminisced how I raised him so that he could use his critical thinking skills at his job, which were coming in handy these days. I was pleasantly surprised that he thought along those lines. It seems that we've developed a more "adult" relationship instead of "mother" and "Child." He had just graduated the day before, and I told him I was proud of him. "Now you are a graduate." Given the difficult circumstances of losing his father at the age of 13, and being raised by a single mom, he had done exceedingly well. His hopes are to go toward a Master's in the fall.

Beautiful sunny day as I drove back home after being away for a few days. As I entered the driveway, rows of blooming purple irises met me. What a nice welcome home!

Another lazy day. I loaded and ran the dishwasher, watched a couple more episodes of Blue Bloods. My honorary daughter came over to wish me Happy Mother's Day in person. We talked a bit and when she asked what I've been watching, I told her about Will Trent. She was curious but said she'd only watch a couple of scenes. We wound up watching the entire pilot episode (the 3rd time for me). Now she's "mad" at me (not for real) because she got hooked just like I did. She stay so busy that she usually doesn't watch TV but now she wants to finish watching the series. And she's so anxious to see how it plays out, she's going to read the episodes synopses first. :ROFLMAO:

I took calls from two of my grandchildren, my BFF and a neighbor wishing me Happy Mother's Day. I got and sent several texts re: the same and called the neighbor's sister to wish her HMD. She used to live in our complex and we reconnected a few years ago while attending the senior center. We no longer attend but have maintained our friendship. Besides spending time on SF, I posted some HMD messages in my Facebook groups and on my profile page. I also took two naps.

Time on the phone talking with my daughters. The usual chores throughout the day. Walked by myself this morning and in the evening with my husband. It’s too hot for our usual afternoon walking. 30C/86F. This is breaking records. This would be usual for the middle of June and it’s only May 14th.

Stopping by here, for a short bit, during this so-far-sleepless night; (It's 2:45a.m.)

Glad to read some of all of your posts, to catch up a little, and then, to hopefully be able to get to sleep, on my next attempt.

Thought I'd leave a short hello post, here, for other nightowls, and early-morners, and next-dayers.;)

I don't know why the spellchecker, thinks that I meant nightgowns, when I clearly said, nightowls.:giggle::geek::LOL:

Well, okay, perhaps that making myself laugh, plus my saying hello to all of you, might help to shift my brain toward relaxing enough to get some zzzzz's.

Good morning all , ive to collect my Prescription today ,also returning 2 tops , so popping into the Post Office ,
then I need to get some milk to see me through till Wednesday.
Im not going to look at anymore bedding plants ,so I shall walk past the Market shop with my eyes closed .
Have a nice day all

@Lady Walk past the market shop with your eyes closed? Hahahaha. Hope you're more successful with that kind of plan than I would be!

I'm off today, and it's not supposed to be as hot as it has been for the past couple of days so I can work in the garden. DD has a doc appointment at 10, then we'll be off to spend my gift cards. In the meantime, there are flowers that want to be deadheaded and weeds that need to be pulled.

we had that last year.. hotter than usual, and it was hell trying to sleep at night. In my room at midnight it was 90 degrees some nights, and I don't have AC..( most people don't in the UK).. I'm praying to all that's holy we don't get those temps this year..

Love sittin out on the back porch with the dawg who would prefer me to walk in the still warm sun around the block but he will take off at a slower amble if I won't go with him. I ususal light a mozzie coil [we get them around regular] and just love to sit and watch the setting sun from 3.45-5pm ish spread some dapples across the bifucatted 50 ft boab tree in the distance. It very strangle reminds me of uk days during high school experiences - all has changed there of course [UK] and I was back in 2000 and then caught up with my bro' who is now deceased and stayed with him a few weeks. He eventually moved to Spain purchased a small village villa and had a great time until his untimely death 16 yrs ago. so dabbling sun sad memories but somehow they still nurture me?

It's forecast to rain today before we get the sun back tomorrow and it's windy too.
I'm happy not to do anything much today ( Got the laundry washed and dried already)... because yesterday I overdid it in the garden.. and now today my shoulder and my knees are painful.. I might have to take some painkillers.. so better that I just do as little as poss today...

Thank yo for thinking of us nightgowns...I mean night owls Kaila ❣️ :ROFLMAO: You should see some of the things my speech to text app comes up with on my phone. One of them would probably be censored here! Sometimes I just don't bother to use that feature on my phone and tablet. I hope you don't continue to have sleepless nights.

I just got an email to advise me that I have won $5million in the Facebook Lottery . I am so excited.excited joy.gif

Got special codes and everything to claim. I will spend the morning drinking coffee and eating donuts to decide if I should accept.
So hard to make a decision at my age

However I do have a date at the library this afternoon for a discussion on new authors so perhaps I will bring up the subject then to get some advice.
Will keep you posted...
