'The Stroll"

If there's one song that brings back memories, it's "The Stroll". You can't hear that song and not think of Dick Clark.'s American Bandstand. Those kids doing "The Stroll" on TV were royalty- talk about total cool!
Looking at the videos, they were just as dorky as we all were.

I remember that like yesterday ... I always looked for Kenny & Arlene šŸ’•

The Stroll was easy. Anyone that knew how to do ā€œThe Madisonā€ was cooler. Remember when the DJ would say ā€œIt’s Madison Time?ā€
I also liked the Mashed Potatoes, The Pony, Bristol Stomp, The Watusi and The Bump. The rest of the songs like the Twist, the Swim, the Frug, the Hitch Hike were all novelty dances to songs with lyrics that made absolutely no sense.

Remember the song called the Wiggle Wobble? Embarrassing, to say the least. Made no sense.

I saw the Orlons at an oldies concert back in the 80's, and they sang The Wah Watusi.

this bunch thougth they were cool too....lolo.....
Thank you for that great find. I thought for a minute I'd stepped into a time warp. Those kids had the same clothes and hair styles as my high school classmates, button down collars on the boy's shirts and one girl was wearing a patterned blouse identical to one I had. So I went to YouTube and read all about it.

The film was made in North Carolina not too far from my West Virginia home and it was filmed in 1964, the year I graduated. We were doing the pony and the twist at that time, but I wouldn't be surprised if some were clogging at home, just afraid to let the rest of us know.

The notes say clogging has roots in Ireland, Scotland and Africa and I can see all three, particularly Irish in it because of the way the upper body barely moves while the feet go 90 miles an hour.

What a fun thread! ...

Oh, the memories. Me and my sister watched Bandstand every day.It first aired in Philadelphia where we lived. I even got to go there when Frankie Avalon got me in. He was a neighborhood guy. The only problem was you had to cover your uniform if you went to Catholic school,
South Philly was kind of lucky. They didn't have all the gangs, but the guys were known as a bunch of wussies. North Philly was a warzone, especially around 12th and Poplar. West Philly was so-so. Back when I lived in Philly, Northeast Philly or Frankford was mostly white back in the 60's. I played football for Frankford back in the '60's and my dad moved us to Bradenton, Florida my senior year so I could get a chance at a scholarship, which I did. I was just glad to get out of Philly. Best part of Philly were the cheesesteaks. Friday nights, you could find me on Girard Avenue at the Armory dances. I heard my old friend Jerry Blavat died. Probably the coolest guy in Philly while I was growing up. I hadn't seen him in at least 25 years.

I am surprised they called the guys from South Philly wussies They obviously never met any of my cousins. I didn't know Jerry Blavat died.
