I post both good news and bad news and I don't consider myself a negative person. I believe there are members who can attest to that. We do have a Current News and Hot Topics thread after all ! And unfortunately, much of the prominent news is bad news. One thing I did notice is that some of the good news threads I've posted got hardly any responses at all. I agree with what @Devi wrote about some just wanting to share things. Another reason I post certain things is to make people aware of scams and trends that could be a danger if people are not aware.

I've also noticed that some of us who respond to bad news threads are also compassionate, good natured and even downright funny at times. Therefore I refuse categorize anyone as negative because they respond to negative posts. Then again, as much as I'm on here, I miss some threads, so I may not be aware of those who only respond to negativity. I was made aware yesterday of a thread that had gotten contentious and was taken down; I never saw it.

Glad you brought up this thread again Right Now…

Doomscrolling is not only bad for mental health but also physical health. Sure it makes sense to be aware of what is going on in the world, but, to make a daily habit of only looking for the bad news headlines (assuming, that others have not already read them), and regurgitating them is not cool.

Doomscrolling is not only addictive but increases cortisol levels in the body (symptom of PTSD) not only for the writer but also the reader (which is more to the point here).
.

There's no stopping people who choose to continually report and dwell on the saddest and most sensational news. They thrive on it and the attention it brings them. There are also people who enjoy reading and responding to those threads. If you don't like that kind of topic, the only thing you can do is stop supporting those threads by not responding to them. The less attention given to them, the better.

I'd rather spend my time responding to threads that help people and uplift them.
well said - good advice for all!! the sensationalists and the none ones!!

Sorry, RN, I can't agree with that statement.
I don't expect all to agree with me, nor an apology for feeling differently. This is my own opinion, and why I said it was something to contemplate and ponder. The whole point of this thread is about our differences and why we react well to some posts and don't like others. :)

Doomscrolling - that's a great word which encompasses so much - must look out for it ; it sounds scary - like overpowering doom|!!
I hadn't heard of this descriptive word before, either, but it hits the nail on the head!

Not responding to you right now Right Now - see how complex it can get already and I haven't finished my sentence! However don't you think perhaps that it's not so much what people say but how they say it that matters - there is always a doomscrolling way of saying things and a happy way or more positive way - but ya know we all come from different climes with different signs and different mimes - it can be fun sometimes and then suddenly a scuffle breaks out!! why don't we all promise to be cheeful happy chipmunks from now on!!

And you certainly have the right to express your opinion RN. Just because I disagree with someone doesn't mean I don't like and/or respect the person. I certainly respect others' rights to have differing opinions. Wouldn't the world be boring if we all agreed on everything?! What I don't accept is someone belittling me and those I care about because I will speak on it. The "Jersey Girl attitude" comes out and not even my husband wanted to deal with that me. :ROFLMAO:

That explains a lot, but try getting the message over to the obsessed.

Hang on, I will look for the Benzodiazepines.

Again, I want to thank everyone for their honest input regarding the nature of neighborhoods in this forum.
So many posts, so helpful to give a glimpse into your different personalities for those who may wander to this thread in the future.

Yes, and I thank you@pepper for sharing your views and opinions for us to digest. It's all part of getting to know you better.:)

Why are we poking fun of Benzodiazepines and people on them? 🤷‍♀️

Note: I’m not actually looking for an answer. Just making a statement
