Body Odor

Hubby & I one year has season tickets for the local philharmonic. At one concert, four people came in at the last minute & the one man reeked of fresh garlic when he walked past. There were two other couples between us & them, but you could still smell him. I felt very sorry for the people closest to him for the next couple of hours.

After years of working with the public, my husband & I decided there are two different groups of people with body odor. The people with who smell, but when they leave that stink goes with them, we called a Yeti. The second group are the ones who leave their noxious scent behind after they leave the area, we called a Skunk Ape.

It's sad, but soap is cheap to stay clean. I don't think there is any excuse for smelling. I found our the people who actually had homes to live in were much worse than the homeless.

Have you ever sat next to someone in a public place, like church or a theater, whose aroma left something to be desired?
A few times when I worked at the hospital... especially in the ER. Besides that I can only think of a girl on the bus that no one else wanted to sit with because of the smell and her living conditions. I sat with her... she was very nice. The best looking jock in our entire school told me I "had to be a true saint being able to sit next to Becky for the 15 minutes it took to get to school." I was so glad she didn't hear it but golly, he TALKED to me! 😵

Yes I've smelled that disgusting smell many times from other people.. it makes me retch.

i did an unforgivable thing when I was young.. I was working at a place where we wore uniforms.. the one girl always stunk to high heaven of BO... and she would get changed into her uniform in our tiny tearoom and hang her stinking clothes on the hook above our tea table where we had our break. I'd gone to tea, and I couldn't eat my lunch because of this revolting smell.. so in fury .. I have no excuse for doing it other than I was mad as hell that she didn't wash... I took her blouse off the hook, and plunged it into hot water and washing up liquid.. ...

I told her I;d done it.. she got upset, and reported me to the boss.. and I got a suspension for a few days.....I know it was bad, and of course I was young and not thinking with a wise head .... but I still don't regret doing it..I cannot stand stinking people..

I'm surprised the boss wasn't on your side, was he olfactorily challenged?
I wonder why she objected to getting her clothes washed?
Religious grounds?

Happened to me a few times, suppose it does to us all. Nothing too offensive, and I usually move, if I can.

Yes, we probably all have. I'm paranoid about body odor a bit. I use deodorant religiously in the summer. In the winter, I only use it at work.

If people eat a large amount of garlic, their body will emanate an odor. It's not a nice odor either, but it goes away. Experienced this at work once.

A few times at the gym, someone got on a treadmill next to me radiating what I call a ripe odor, like no underarm deodorant used. I tried not to be too obvious by waiting about 5 mins and then got off and went over to the weights.

Another time, I was sitting in the waiting room at an optician. This elderly couple sat next to me. The husband was very sociable and started talking sports which is something I enjoy. However, he reeked of cigarettes. I mean it was just awful. There was no way I could change seats without it being obvious. I lucked out that they called me for my exam a few minutes after.

Speaking of jocks... I often stayed after school for activities I was involved in. That meant taking the late bus home. Well, the boys also had football practice after school. They got on the bus smelling like a pack of wet dogs! The whole bus reeked of them, but I managed to survive the trip home. Inevitably, Dave S would plop down right next to me. He was a cute stinkin' sweaty mess, lol. In fact, that stench was familiar to me because my dad coached a football team and my boyfriend played quarterback for the high school team. 🏈 I was always surrounded by stinkin' jocks, lol.

I used to work with an Indian woman. She smelled of curry. At first, I couldn't figure out what the odor was or where it was coming from, then I realized it was from her. It wasn't terribly unpleasant, just a bit odd.

My son once got stuck on a plane next to some guy with that, er, problem. He said it was a nightmare. No escape. When the plane landed, he was probably the first passenger to leap off the plane!

There is an excellent small grocery store near me. It's not part of a large chain. It's one of those "Mom and Pop" kind of places. They have a nice assortment of items, some of which aren't available in the bigger grocery stores. I usually go there once per week. One of the cashiers is a girl around 18 or so. She's very nice but has THE WORST body odor. I can't imagine that it hasn't been brought to her attention. I avoid her check-out lane because the odor honestly nauseates me.

Yes, I am sure I have but, the lady I will always remember is the one that stood behind me in a supermarket queue and the smell of Johnson's talcum power was overwhelming :(

I used to work wit lady who wore Poison perfume and it was so strong, it gave me a headache.

well he never had reason to be anywhere near her. She worked in the part of the studio.. where he never went.. he was archetypically a boss behind a desk with a big cigar .

In my naivety I thought when I told her what I'd done, she would likely be embarrassed, maybe offer up a mumbled apology, and then never come to work stinking again.... nope got it wrong... she ran straight into his office in Hysterics..

I don't want to be a bore, but my neighbour years ago.. when we lived on the RAF camp in Uxbridge.. had a real problem with Johnsons Talcum powder.. totally addicted to it. When she walked or moved her arms.. great puffs of talc would emit from her... she was only young.. maybe in her early 30's with a toddler..

When the scare about Talc, and the connection with cancer was in the news..she was the first person I thought of..

Yes. It's claimed that a certain mineral used in talcum powder can cause some cancers although the makers dispute that.

Oh yes, not pleasant. It's hard to know what to do or say.
I once worked in an office where a girl really smelled, everyone noticed. Perhaps some people sweat a lot. But showering and deodorant is for me the highest priority.

I hate strong perfume, why do some people douse themselves in it?
Just fresh clean is fine, I like neutral deodorant and rarely wear but a dab of nice perfume.

Have you ever been in an elevator or a room and smelled the person's perfume who had been there before you? Depending on the type of perfume you use and how heavily you apply it, it can have a soft or heavy sillage. Some people aren't aware that the trail they leave is stinking up the place, and some don't care. I'm careful when applying perfume. I don't want people to be overwhelmed by it or to smell me coming and going. You'd have to be very close to me to smell it. If you hugged me or whispered in my ear, then you'd get a whiff of it, and I smell divine.
