Today I went online and purchased my first Lottery Ticket for the Congolotto. You are all invited to a big party when I win 70 Million.

Yep, The Calif Super Lotto and the Mega. SOMEONE wins and it could be ME ! Costs a heck of a lot less than Vegas. I could lose $10 in the blink of an eye there.
+ I like the anticipation of waiting....and dreaming. I don't gamble with anything else besides my every day life.

Of I guess that means you are paying our airfare from Australia as well,to help you celebrate your big win.???
Yes I buy a lottery ticket about 4/5 times a year, I bought $40 mixed lottery tickets for hubbies birthday recently and he didn't get one cent in return

No. It's not that I'm opposed to playing, it just doesn't interest me.

My youngest son plays regularly. He won $30k one time, and another time he was in a 3 person pool that won $50k. When he hits "The Big One", he has promised to 'fix me up'.

I'm aware of too many local stories about seriously gambling addicted mostly middle aged woman. These are family tragedies on the same order of heart break as teenage meth addicts. For this reason I don't gamble. I don't know what the answer to this problem is but it puts in jeopardy the social fabric in small town America.

Shipper, you are right that responsible gambling doesn't do any harm, and I will also say that people who play the lottery don't become gambling addicts, but gambling addiction is what I'm concerned about and it is a lot more common than many people think.

No, I do not play the lottery or gamble at all.

The lottery is nothing more than a voluntary tax. However I do encourage others to play. Their lotto money goes into the state general fund, and from there gets parceled out to our county. It allows me, as a county supervisor, to not only help keep our local taxes low, but as a taxpayer it reduces both my state and county tax burden. So for all those that play, I thank you.

I play the lottery online in the UK. I buy for 8 weeks at a time - Weds. and Saturday and play the same numbers.

It's not a waste of money to buy tickets here as the profits go to good causes which I can see for myself. Places can apply for lottery grants to help fund projects - art, history, music, sport, environment. Just in my area there is a sign at my leisure centre (gym) that says it was partially funded by Lottery Sports, the 400 year old church down the road is being refurbished by a grant from Lottery Heritage, some of the British movies I've watched have been partially funded by Lottery Arts, in the summer the fiddle workshops are funded by Lottery Arts.

So, no, not a waste of my money. Yes, I would like to win as well. I occasionally buy a Euromillions tickets as well. Someone across the loch from us won £160 million in Euromillions a few years ago.

Oh, and over here you get the full amount. Tax is not taken out.

I won $40 the first time I played. Then I picked out some numbers and played the same ones for 15 years and only won a few dollars now and then. Then I was afraid to stop because that set of numbers might win. I broke my hip a few years ago and was not able to buy lottery tickets. That event set me free of the lottery and I haven't bought a single ticket since.

I "invest" somewhere between $1 and $5 each week in lottery tickets. The lottery is my retirement program. I pay in each week. Then, just when I need it, I'll be a multi-million dollar winner. That will allow me to retire. See how easy it's going to be??? :>)
