Fried chicken, not good for you but good for you

Well, it is about 2:30 in the morning and I suddenly have a craving for fried chicken. Yes, I know it is not good for me but if you live in the south (US) it is a normal food. I went and took some chicken out of the freezer and this will be on the menu tomorrow. Of course mashed potatoes and gravy are a must. How do you make fried chicken? I prefer the breast on the bone but only had boneless in the freezer. I like to soak for a few hours in buttermilk and then coat with flour, salt and pepper for the breading.

I will admit I do not know what peri peri is.
Here we just do standard fried chicken, milk gravy with lots of black pepper and some veggies on the side to make us pretend it is healthy. I would be happy to cook a meal for you if you come over here. I saw a thing recently where teenagers from the UK were trying food. They were scared at first but after they tried American biscuits and gravy, fried chicken with gravy they were quite happy boys.

I don’t often eat fried chicken but when I do I use an air fryer. Chicken wings for me, drum sticks for my significant other. It collects all the excess oil and crisps up the skin. I have it with either caesar salad or coleslaw, sometimes both. Love the air fryer though

Whenever we went out with my grandmother for the day she would always pack a picnic lunch. She'd get up really early to fry chicken. Never had better than her cold fried chicken picnic lunches... It was in the south, Louisiana.
Did she have that southern belle accent?
I love that southern drawl

I've been craving fried chicken too! Maybe summer brings it on.

With advancements in better quality chickens with less unwanted fats plus chance of experiments with much better oils since the 90s, if you're careful where you get your bucket or if you get your own ingredients to make it.... You can enjoy it with minimal worries! Why the not, hey?

Not a KFC fan, I think its the bottom of the barrel fried chicken... Good homemade is so much better.

Only fast fast food fried chicken I eat is Popeye's.

I haven't had fried chicken in ages. I might have to try Popeye's.
When I first moved here I had the best fried chicken of my life at Bojangles. It was crisp, not greasy, seasoned well.
Never got a batch like that since so I stopped trying years ago.
Never something I made at home even though I cook a lot. Don't think I'd ever get it to be as good as true southern cooks.

I've got a tray of Fried ( KFC style) chicken in the fridge right now, which I got from M&S the other day.. I can go a year without eating friend chicken, but sometimes I'll have it once a week for several weeks..

Decades ago, I used to eat fried chicken when visiting relatives or from Popeye's and KFC. The only fried food I eat now is basically scrambled eggs every now and then.
