Last October our boiler died and couldn’t be fixed. Our building is 45 years old and it’s not easy to find one that can be adjusted to fit in an older building.
We were without hot water for 16 days. We had to settle for a slightly used one as it would have taken a month for a new one. I am on the board and the complaining from residents was ridiculous. They started to leave nasty signs in the lobby and elevator. One person called the health department.
I tried to explain to people that you just don’t go to Home Depot and buy one. First they had to find one and then it had to be shipped from the East coast.
Some people went elsewhere to shower. I boiled hot water and then put it in a bucket in the bathtub. I would fill a glass with half hot and half cold and pour it over my head to shower. Some people used paper plates but I just hand washed mine like the old days and even had company for dinner more than once during that time.
