Americans are fat.

But pay attention to "serving size" too.
Yeah, I once bought some "zero calorie" chocolate sauce. Turns out any product with less than 5 calories can label itself zero calorie. And the serving size was so small you'd need a micro pipet to get just one... I think it had the same calories as regular chocolate, just more creative labeling.
Yes, I think the fear of kidnapping could be the reason you don't see kids playing outside anymore.
Maybe fat kids are harder to kidnap?

I agree that a lifestyle of convenience causes overweight and I think America started the king size in everything. Like Pinky and Avon have said, portion size has a lot to do with it. Plus other countries are known to eat much healthier and be much more active. Many people bike 🚴 in other countries instead of driving and / or walk daily. In general other countries have healthier lifestyles.
Little me complains about that all the time at restaurants including fast food restaurants. (Hey, why don't you have at least one menu item for smaller people or kids?) Most fastfood menu items have portions twice what I would consume given a choice. And they obviously hate selling small portion choices maybe because in their eyes that means less profit. Suspect MacDonald's stopped their $1 McChicken because they thought too many chose to buy that versus large portion items. Yeah the ones in TV commercials, only a giant can fit their mouth around. Or restaurants that think we all want an excess that any we cannot eat will go in a doggy bag. No, no, and NO!

Americans are way too fat. WHY?
A lot of people have a bad diet. They eat too little protein and too much fat, starch, and sugar. They're fat because they make the wrong food choices and eat way too much of them. In order to maintain that weight, they have to consume a lot of calories per day, and they do. They are also sedentary and sit way too much.

What is eaten and how much are the main culprits.

My friend tried portion control with her husband’s meals. He’d just wait until she wasn’t looking and go eat more. If that part of the meal was gone, he’d get something else. He’s very overweight and his father died from a heart attack at his age.

Americans love food. Eating is a pastime/hobby! Fast food is cheap!

Yesterday at the gym, I was on the stairstep machine. From up there I can see what's going on in the weights and aerobics areas plus the comings/goings at the entrance lobby. At one point these three women came through the front doors dressed in one piece swimsuits. I'm guessing they were heading to water aerobics. An exercise with almost no impact on the joints. Anyway, all three were grossly obese and obviously proud of it since they weren't wearing any type of wrap or coverup.

I have seen menus that include senior citizens at several restaurants, and they tend to be smaller portions and cost less.

I remember growing up, Chicken was a stable in our house.
Probably Fried, not that anyone seemed to care, Mom's was the best.
Everyone in my house seemed to be a normal weight.

Now it seems everwhere I turn, Wings dripping with some kind of sauce is the Norm.
We are told not to eat red meat, that chicken is healthier for you.

'Can I get fries with that?'

I wonder sometimes.

Certainly! French fries are the most popular vegetable! :ROFLMAO:

***"Under an obscure USDA rule, most frozen french fries have been considered fresh vegetables since 1996. Now they all are, under a revision last year that added batter-coated, frozen french fries to the list of fresh produce."

I like the old Henny Youngman joke.

A man asks his doctor if his health is OK. Doctor says, "No, you're fat."
The man says, "I want a second opinion."
The doctor says, "You're also ugly."

Now really, what doctor is going to tell his patient something like that?

Not exactly Late Breaking News...been like that since the fast food industry became the mainstay in America's feeding habits.
You got that right. I walk through the grocery store and I check out the aisles of frozen dinners and processed foods. You eat enough of that stuff and two things are bound to happen. You will get fat and you will have health issues. Stay away from those cabinets with the clear glass. Check out the sodium content in that food.

This is the best time of the year to buy fresh picked fruits and veggies here in the east. Peaches, oh man, can I ever eat fresh picked peaches and white corn on the cob.

Last weekend i took a day trip that included a ferry ride..... in the car waiting area usually end up waiting an hour by the ferry there is kiosks selling hot dogs and everything under the sun and a local doughnut shop that does a big business..... on the ferry they same people who just ate while waiting visited the vending machines etc....

everywhere i go i see people having a snack til what ..........your next snack.... Americans eat far too often processed foods and drink tons of calories example one of starbucks frappacinos is over 900 calories . the body positivism groups are not helping this.

Food is part of it, yes. But the other part is that 25/30 years ago, there were kids running, playing, and riding bikes up and down the streets constantly. What I see now is slow walking so they don't miss anything on the phone they're staring at as they walk. I don't remember when the last time is that I saw a kid on a bike here.

They don't go swimming in the summer as much... now they go to computer game meet-ups and tournaments.
