My Apple Tree Got Mowed Down

I just went out and took a photo of it. I hope it regrows and I think my lawn guy will have to look for another customer. I didn't know his girlfriend was doing the mowing until it was over and I didn't notice it was gone yesterday. It was about 2 feet tall - she must have seen it.
This is terrible... I would be soooo not happy! Did you report it to him? What was his response?
Yes, at that height she would have definitely seen it. Did she run over your bricks?!

This is just ruddy appalling... how dare he send his girlfriend without first checking with you that it would be alright.. and secondly he sent someone who clearly didn't know what the heck she was doing.. beyond absolute belief...

Get him to replace it immediately...IMMEDIATELY.. and then find yourself another gardener...

I know my problems are petty compared to what other have to endure, but they just seem to be snowballing lately.

I can't put a monetary value on the tree since I paid nothing for it, but it's like losing a pet.

I am hesitating to answer the lawn guy - I might be sorry later if I said anything libelous. I notice he didn't offer to reimburse me for what I paid to have my lawn mowed. His girlfriend mowed, but he was supervising and should be responsible. I am at a loss to explain why she couldn't see the tree or even the bricks around it. Might have has a "smoke" before arriving.

Awww, that is so sad about your tree. When I was little (pre kindergarten age), I was growing an apple tree from a seed in a little tin can of dirt, and my grandpa came to visit and dumped out my tree thinking he was helping clean up. From my (limited) experience I'd say the only way to recover from the sorrow is to grow another new baby tree yourself. Though it does look like yours might recover from the "pruning".

I remember in Nebraska when my mom and I first moved there I planted little flowering shrubs (forsythia etc) around the house but then my mom hired a guy and told him to mow all the grass and weeds from around the house, and he mowed down all my plants. I was so annoyed with my mom and she was annoyed with him. Editing to add that the guy turned out to be very helpful with many projects over the years even though he'd mis-interpreted the mowing instruction.

It's not petty... it's what is happening in your life and you're letting us know about it. No one else can determine what's petty or not petty to us. And the tree... yeah, that would seriously upset me... and a lot more since it was grown from a seed and not just picked up at a nursery. Is the guy in the pic you showed the mower... or his kids? If it's him, he's very young, isn't he?

no need to say anything libellous , just say yes, I would be grateful if you could buy another tree . Then once he has, cancel his services.. and find someone else..

This is a good plan. Right now your emotions are high. Later, especially if the tree recovers, it may seem like a very small issue. The girl might be inexperienced or clueless, no point wishing she wasn't, and maybe she is normally just awesome and simply not aware of what baby trees look like.

I was thinking just that, if I get another apple with a sprouted seed.

I can't get over these guys lately letting others do their jobs. The contractor that was supposed to install my storm door last week (3 times) said now his wife is sick. How does that prevent him from working, unless he was going to send her to do it?

This is as close I've come to crying since my last cat passed.

It looks like it would survive and regrow, even-though it had a bit of a 'setback'.

Edit: Still get the replacement tree from the lawn guy.
