Italy erases the names of gay mothers from their children's birth certificates

the first and only woman to take us into war... :(

Good God. I was in social work at the time she was in power. Taking us to war was the least of it. I left the profession at the time.

Elvis Costello (musician) has a song called "Tramp the Dirt Down" about his feelings about Maggie. I echo them.

Are you forgetting Good Queen Bess?
I'm afraid I wasn't around in 1587 during Queen Elizabeth 1st's Rule... however since then... royalty no longer rules the UK and are unable to take us into war. ..and during MY lifetime.. Thatcher the school milk snatcher has been the only woman to take us into war... and the first politician to do it in my lifetime

Some valid points that could only be answered by a lawyer, Lilac, when it comes to the rights of a survivor. But wouldn't that demean the other partner, that, even though she was legally married there had to be a document confirming her rights to the child? Since I am not in their situation I am going by what my heart tells me! And to respond to another of your points: I assume since one of the mothers was listed in the case mentioned that she was the birthmother by artificial insemination!
It would not demean the partner who did not provide either the egg or sperm for the child. This is a document that records the biological parents of a child.

The other partner would be the same a step-parent who is married to the biological parent. Step-parents are no blood relation to the child & as such, not listed on birth certificates. There are plenty of step-parents who have formally adopted their spouses children & thus, have legal custody of those children should something happen to the biological parent. Since the biological father, most likely in this case, would not object to such an adoption there shouldn't be any problem with it.

Whether the biological father's name is actually listed, or listed as a test tube # (see post #20), at least the child would have some idea who their father is. Why hide this from the child? Why not be honest with them?

There are times that emotions should not be used to make decisions & I feel this is one of those times.

Lizzy Borden ... Lori Vallow ... Susan Smith ... Just to name a few.
Those are exceptions, I hope! I need desperate reassurance that, in general, women are gentler and kinder! Please leave me that "illusion" because I would have to change something I believed in devoutly for all of my life! I don't want women to be the same as us: ready to go to battle over stupid causes (forget Thatcher, I mean in general), exaggerated competitiveness, the urge to dominate, to be the cock of the walk, greed (Who dies with the most toys)! And I agree completely, there are many exceptions to my exaggerated picture of Male-hood, so you kinder versions of my gender please don't take offense! :)

It is rare for women to be in a position to take a country to war. UK has had just two female PMs as has NZ. Australia has had only one and Canada, like US, none (?) We need a larger sample to form generalisations.

Maggie does stand out though. The Falklands was the only war I can remember where Australia was not involved in support of either UK or US. It all happened too quickly for us to get there in time to take part. In any case, Maggie declined our offer of help.

We did have a female Prime Minister in Canada! Kim Campbell! I liked her, too, even though I support another party, but couldn't enjoy her for too long:

Google: She served from June 25 to November 4, 1993. Campbell is the first and so far only female prime minister of Canada.

we've had 3 Female PMs.. Thatcher.. May.. and Liz truss... the latter the last to meet with the Late Queen...

.
Margaret Thatcher was the longest-serving British prime minister of the 20th century. She won landslide re-elections in 1983 and 1987.
Best darn female PM we have ever had and are likely to have.
She surpassed most of her male counterparts!

She did an excellent job in introducing economuic policies intended to reverse high inflation.
Thatcher introduced a series of economic policies intended to reverse inflation.. She will always be remembered in the UK for reducing the trade union movement's power and influence on British industry.

Thatcher did not take the country to war….she just happened to be PM when the Argentinian situation escalated. She had to do what had to be done.

I don’t know what all the fuss is about. A child can have
only one biological mother. There can be guardians
and relatives who look after a child if something happens
to the birth mother.

The other “mother” unless she takes legal action
and adopts the child, she has not got a leg to
stand on when it comes to benefits for the child
in Italy and that is what the Italian PM is concerned
about. The other “mother” can become legal
guardian…no big deal.

The Registry of Births (UK) is a Government
organisation … all birth certificates are issued
by Government Registrars.

Sperm donors’ names or sperm clinics numbers
do not appear on birth certificates in the UK
for any couple… lesbian or otherwise!
