My Apple Tree Got Mowed Down

I just went out and took a photo of it. I hope it regrows and I think my lawn guy will have to look for another customer. I didn't know his girlfriend was doing the mowing until it was over and I didn't notice it was gone yesterday. It was about 2 feet tall - she must have seen it.

From the looks of it, I'm pretty sure it will be ok.

The lawn guy's girlfriend is obviously a few bricks short.

I didn't talk to the woman - he came to collect the fee, but I did see her walking across the lawn toward his truck after they were done. She was laughing about something.
Sure sign of a mental deficit.

Kidding aside; she could have been laughing about her oopsie..."tee-hee, I think I mowed down that lady's plant or something." So he'll probly know exactly why he got fired.

Hearing the grass was kind of high, she probably took your poor tree as some kind of weed. I do think a better barrier will be needed in the future.
This is true.

I’m also unsure how someone can cut the grass at that height and not chip those bricks, especially considering the ground isn’t completely even. Also the apple tree stump looks quite a bit taller than the grass cut around it. Something doesn’t add up.

If I were the lawn mower and saw that little tree and hadn't been informed about it, I'd probably stop mowing and ask the homeowner about it, but then I can't count on the common sense of other people.

Last Spring a strong storm came through our valley snapping our fig tree off at ground level. Today, the side shoots have taken off so much that we will not miss a fig this summer. I thinned some of the weaker shoots to encourage strong growth. As others said, your tree will be fine. My neighbor had a gardener and had to be sure her garage door was down when he was there because he would help himself to her husband's beer in the garage refrigerator. She was afraid he would retaliate if she fired him.

I will never live in an HOA again because they only see the homeowners as ATMs. One problem is that they decide how tall bushes will be or where you can put a potted plant. Sad to see the flowers mowed down but the guy was probably just told to keep everything at standard level regardless of the flowering season.

Maybe it was as someone said - it might have been a victim of the weed wacker. I can't explain it other that it was there before the lawn was mowed; it was gone afterwards.

Yeah, I mentioned that the other day, and I'm still thinking it... she saw the bricks, grabbed the whacker and then got too close. I've seen a neighbor take out more than one of her plants that way... even a tomato plant when whacking too close to her garden.

And get laughed out of court and counter-sued? Like I mentioned, there was no monetary value involved, more sentimental than anything.
I had a veggie patch on the side. I told lawn guy not to touch it or at the back. He didn't listen. I sued as the lawn was burned, undiluted lawn nutrients and the wrong kind. I got value back for plants AND $500 for lawn damages.

The tree was well marked, she shouldn't have mowed it over, she should have seen the bricks around and anyone should have been promted that it was something NOT TO CUT DOWN! Sorry, it would have angered me...

How about we back up a little. In another thread Deb was having a hard time getting someone to cut the grass. She was thinking about doing it herself. Then she had to be convinced the amount she would pay was fair considering how often the grass would need mowing.

Now go back to the pics of the tree when it was about 2ft. tall. The area looked brown & dried out. Pic of the tree after it was cut the area looks healthy. The remaining portion looks like it will regrow.

So if she asks for another tree to be bought & planted by the lawn guy. What is more likely he will destroy the new tree & the old one that is reviving. Or make sure great care is taken from now forward.

One action. She gets another tree, keeps a lawn guy that will pay attention & can watch her orignal tree regrow.

Another action not be understanding, fire the lawn guy after requesting a new tree.

Which serves her best?

Only when he came to collect he said he let his girlfriend do it.
So after the fact? I meant before when you hired him? If it was not just 100% him, he should have told you others may fill in at times.

Yeah, not enough to sue, but the tree meant something to you.
