During summer of 1973... from May to September.. what were you doing ?

I was living and working on the beautiful Isle of Arran... living my best life.. age 18 years old..

I went home at the end of the season in September.. and my life changed 360 degrees overnight when my mother died from a Prescription pill overdose age just 39.. so I had to leave my job and I was left to raise all my siblings

What were you doing ?

Spent that last summer fishing with Papa. Gramps had died in the summer of 69, Papa didn't have the courage to return to our fishing haunt until then.

Sadly, I didn't know that the following year, Papa, at just 57, would lose his life to a massive coronary thrombosis. Thankfully, we had our best haul of Catfish. The plans were to follow this time with ice fishing for smelts in February of 74. Unfortunately, that's the month he died.

I was drafted for the Viet Nam war. I stayed in the states. I lived in a barracks with about 40 young men. The work was hard, it was very hot, and I hated it. I left ( went AWAL ) for a month until I was threated with prison if I didn't return. ( I was not in favor of the war then, plus I was in the entertainment business/music and that changes very fast...my career was in jeopardy ) Shortly after I got back to camp I gave my life to Jesus. I was in love with God and reading the Bible. My 2 years of conscription was FUN after that! :)

In the Summer of 1973 I was turning 15 years old. I had just finished my 9th grade year of school and this was really the beginning of my rebellion years. I thought it was time to be real cool so this was the Summer I picked up my first cigarette. I didn't really like it very much, but like every other teen in the 70's you had to be cool. I was also a very active teen and played Soccer and Softball so I was doing both in Summer leagues as well as hanging at out with my friends at the pool and going to parties.

I waa expecting my first child , working till It was maternity leave and i got paid leave, had my baby in September .
During my leave a stranger walked into my house and i had almost got to the point of screaming , which i told him i would , , but he kept insisting he was helping my mum who was outside , I went to my front door , and there was no one there . He had come in the back door ,..
He went when i told him mum wasnt there .

It turned out the old lady next door had locked herself out , and this stranger had offered to go round the back and let her in , he had got the wrong house ..
My hubby went out and got a dog ,and that was the first of many, she let me know whenever anyone was about .

I would have spent the majority of my days working at a mink ranch up the road, also chores at home and baling hay for other neighbors if I had time.

Looking back I didn't have a typical childhood, but at the time it was the only life I knew.
